Having lived in Gippsland for several years and played Aussie rules for a couple of clubs - the declining numbers in country footballl has been an issue for st least 20 years- and is something that has been an issue in country towns for a long time too. The big issue back then was retaining youth in small country towns - although surprisingly there were a few at the clubs I played at that travelled back on weekends - having move for work or University. That’s probably another issue - the push for teenagers to go onto university has grown - placing pressure also on apprenticeship numbers as well across the country. The other issue, and it touches on the other thread highlighting how if you don’t go through the private school sector on a scholarship (usually white privileged kids) - you don’t get picked up in the AFL draft. So if you are doing a trade - are you going risk a serious injury and losing income and possibly a job. My son just broke his leg and hasn’t been able to work - and on lighter duties (thankfully a good boss). But if he was in a trade or manual labour - he’d be stuffed. So there a few things impacting numbers in country footy - but that is mainly senior footy - not sure with kids numbers

if you look at basic economies like the UK, German, France, USA basically the western empire they all started off in the country towns and as business expands businesses eat each other until they are centralised in the cities. its working class vs office country vs city. the term white is a made up term by bankers/communists to divide a society for control and expansion for control


so what you are saying is like everything that happened to sporting organisations in the western world in the past 30 years

That's great Fred. And no doubt some valid points. It is however very curious how fumblehouse handles these issues. Instead of addressing the problem they're all about smoke and mirrors. They spew out spurious numbers saying everything is great and participation is at record levels when the folk at ground level know otherwise.

I know the AFL has historically been all about spin, perception and BS but don't you think its about time they just told the plain old truth?? In these days of social media and greater awareness fumblehouse is getting called out more and more and is just looking stupid.

I think any business is about self promotion - outwardly projecting confidence and growth. Got to any agm and see what I mean. The AFL have, however, taken some action about the decline in aboriginal numbers at top level - acknowledged the issue sms putting a plan in place.

There is a difference between promoting your code and telling outright lies about it Fred. I do feel the wheel is turning though. The AFL is now being called out from within about its lies BS and obfuscation. It seems the bubble is beginning to burst on the bubble dwellers. Let the light shine in Freddo.
