agree they are no way what they were 10 years ago.. 100%

What is interesting the uptake on 9now and 7plus lift the networks back up..
they are gaining in popularity which is a huge boost for them.

add in Ch9 owning Stan which has 2.6million subs

(if Ch9 lost Rugby league) there biggest asset would it kill ch9 nope) it will most certainly hurt them.

Ch7 will find it very hard to outbid ch9 who have a media arm of Stan Entertainment.

No guarantee this new deal will be massive.

The violin might very well be playing a sad song for the NRL.

A Russian Oligarch named Len Blavatnik owns DAZN
The company has outlayed over 7 billion to aquire sporting rights around the world but now needs to balance the books.
DAZN will not throw big money for risky new deals unless the numbers support it, no more speculation.
Blavatnik is a genius media tycoon and will be no pushover, the big V might be out of his depth.

TV revenue dropping for the network that already shows the NRL

Media group Nine Entertainment reported a net profit of $95.1 million and a 5 per cent fall in revenue to $1.06 billion for the six months ended December 31.

Chief executive Matt Stanton said weak advertising markets across free-to-air television and digital publishing dragged revenues lower.

Total television revenues dropped 14 per cent to $508.2 million as the ad market remained weak.

Revenue in its publishing businesses that includes The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald and Australian Financial Review fell 2 per cent to $262.2 million over the six month period.

Nine did not break out any numbers for individual digital masthead subscriber numbers. Advertising revenues in its publishing business tumbled 14 per cent over the half-year period.

Netflix not interested in NRL TV rights as V’landys seeks $4b deal
The world’s biggest streaming company, Netflix, has ruled itself out of contention for the upcoming NRL broadcast rights, removing a cashed-up player as the sport seeks a record deal worth more than $4 billion.

A spokesman for Netflix confirmed the company would not bid for any of the National Rugby League rights, backing up comments from its global sports executive, Brandon Riegg, that the $US418 billion ($600 billion) behemoth is interested in marquee sporting events rather than entire seasons.

Netflix was among a group of streaming services touted as potential bidders for the long-term deal, which Australian Rugby League Commission chairman Peter V’landys says will be sealed within three months.
In an interview, Riegg said it was unlikely to fit within its strategy.
“We can certainly look at it, but it’s probably more of a volume play. We’re not at the point where it makes sense for us. It runs a bit counter to the event size strategy we’ve been following,” Riegg said. “Anytime those things come up, we certainly look at it, and sometimes the leagues are willing to create a package that makes the most sense for us.”

Netlfix was never going for the season...

as it was stated they go for Events not seasons..

and Origin has to be on FTA so that rules them out

PVL want have to try hard at all.
the SUBS the ratings talk for themselves.

Ch9 highest rating programs and top product >> NRL
DAZN / FOX highest rating sports program >>> NRL

if Dazn does not get it, Stan and Ch9 will be all over it.
which would be great.

(Ch9 have stated they want Streaming Rights for Stan Sport) which would lift STAN to another LEVEL>
