Post by Terry »

In more disappointment for Australia's bumbling fumbling stumbling code the AFLW grand final tv ratings got an almighty flogging by the NRLW version. The NRLW didn't just pip the AFLW, they didn't get twice the number of viewers, no no no, they tripled 'em!!! Yep you heard that right sports fans the NRLW girls absolutely wiped the floor with their AFLW counterparts with one hell of a thrashing!!!!!

Rugby League reigns supreme in 2025. Bring on 2026!!!!!!!!!!

NRLW 2025 GF TV ratings: 1.084M
AFLW 2025 GF TV ratings: 358k.

3 grand finals…same venue…same day…..hmmm….I’d like to see the figures for a stand alone final.
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.

that was my point i recan it would rate Higher for a stand alone>>
SOO rated over 1 million Stand Alone for the Women.. No reason why GF would not hit that figure and more
especially with a QLD team v NSW team

I agree - I think a stand alone gf for women NRL would do well.

AFLW would do better if the players played better - I think the NRLW is good cause, and no slight, because RL is a pretty straight forward game - not saying easy - but fewer elements - that still need to be performed well - whereas aussie rules is a multi-faceted game - a bit like in tennis - women's tennis is seen as the better game to watch as it is more finessed rather than serve and volley - NRLW I see as a more pleasing affair to watch - and more seems to happen. AFLW players and coaches try and play the same game as the men - but the skills aren't there yet to do so - whereas I think they would be doing better playing the game more suited to the skill set - not trying to mimic.

fair points,

I watched the 2nd half of the AFLW Final, It was truely poor, i did however notice 5 or 6 girls that were very good and ahead of the rest.
that is the major problem, quality.. these 6 girls could easily be Halves or full back or outside back in the NRLW

the Quality was vomit.. general easy things like catching a ball uncontested was dropped many times.

A smaller ball would help the girls
A smaller field
Less players on field.
reduced teams (Quality is not even there it is well behind all sporting codes regards to quality)

its alot to change i know.

I think the quarters are shorter - agree a smaller ball may help. Playing numbers I also thought was 16 on the field. I think the ground should be smaller too - and a 50 metre penalty is too big given the ability to kick that distance is limited in AFLW. I think the big thing is they are trying to play as if skill level was same as men's - it is not.

Yes - I think the AFL went with a "build it and they will come" philosophy - mainly about players getting involved and improving. I guess time will tell - but the damage in these forming years may be too big a hurdle to overcome.

Agree - but don;t think a big rule change will help - if people wanted to watch lower grade football - they'd watch the state leagues.
