All good additions. But the superleague is desperately in need of a cash injection and better management. There was talk of the NRL taking over but that is looking unlikely now.

RL could really be a much bigger sport in the UK if it had PVL running the show. There is massive unlocked potential for the game over there but its never had decent leadership.

Smart and wise new tv deal is needed.
all metrics are up across the game in a big way

better management like you said will go along way

I hope in a few years they look at teams like

London, Wales, Coventry (Midlands) Newcastle for Entry teams 15 and 16

ASHES G2 drew 853K on BBC
By comparison, England versus Australia in rugby union on TNT drew 333,000 viewers, while the Ireland–New Zealand match averaged 222,000.

Super League is at another “crisis” point…one of many they have had over the years.
Expanding to 14 is interesting when their “partner” manager IMG thinks the optimum is 12 and the NRL thinks it is 10.
The expansion is risky without first having a new TV deal, and if the new one is not a substantial increase they could have more problems…and not having a London team in might not prove attractive for broadcasters.
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.
Rugby league, Australias most popular game in some of North Eastern Australia.

Super League have been in crisis the last few years>> though IMG have really lifted the profile of the game
and helped in alot of ways

Ratings at record levels 50% higher than previous years.
Crowd Averages sitting at 10.5k per game.
BBC covering all big games.
Sky Sports the Super League.

and 140k over 3 games in which Australia cleaned swept them.

and the 3 teams included in the comp for 2026
all bring positives to the game

The Pommy game has a lot of potential. The crowds and TV ratings for the ashes tests were great. The problem has always been the governance of the game as Peter The Great has stated. It's basically run by a few big clubs and their millionaire owners. Its all self interest which as stunted the growth of the game for decades.

They desperately need the NRL to take over so they can get somewhere near their potential. Only problem being I can't see this happening. It'd be like the turkeys voting for Thanksgiving. The big clubs and owners won't vote to give themselves less power.

What happens if the English RL does get massive -which it seems to have a base - and starts generating massive revenue - like 100 times it is now - gets up to somewhere near soccer? Not saying it will, but just lets say it gets 10 times bigger - ratings go through roof on a weekly basis, media goes through the roof - etc. What does this mean for the NRL?

It will be very difficult for the Superleague to get 10 times bigger as no club is based in a big city.. The closest is Leeds which is the 5th biggest city in England. The rest are basically in villages. There just isn't a population base to expand exponentially.

With better governance they could however maximise what they've got and get more awareness and casual fans in non RL areas. At best I think they could double or triple their revenue if run properly but they'll never get near soccer in the UK.

It appears that the Super League leadership may be starting to ignore IMG.
