don't agree that Ch 9's coverage is any better or worse the foxtel/DAZN's

they're all average for mine
very annoying commentators .... If stan got DAZN's coverage they'd up their game anyway
dumb side note there

Nine Entertainment is understood to be seeking an upgrade on the three weekly free-to-air matches they have the rights to broadcast under the current deal, and will almost certainly lobby for pay-per-view games to air on its streaming service Stan

Seven Network weighs up bid to secure NRL broadcast rights

Big paywall there LeeRoy.

I would have thought 7 wouldn't have the funds - plus how would airing work - with both codes having same broadcast times in the main? Maybe the alternate/secondary channels in AFL states - and in QLD and NSW for League.

With NRL bosses already engaging in informal discussions with potential suitors for the sport’s next broadcast deal – a contract which looks likely to be the richest in the game’s history – Seven West Media chief executive Jeff Howard has declared that the Kerry Stokes-controlled media company is potentially interested in making a play for the rights

states in Article>>

7 in main states and 7mate in non states.

(channel 9 went big on AFL rights last time>> which made 7 increase there offer>> this will make 9 Think harder>>

also streaming on 7 will be way more advanced than it is now on 7plus> especially this is where it is all moving.

85million per ANNUM tv Deal (down from $111million per ANNUM)

considering inflation this is dire for NZ UNION>>>
numbers have been poor and also considering the RISE of NRL in NZ

Channel 9 are reportedly pushing to secure broadcast rights for all NRL games in the next deal.
They’d keep some free-to-air coverage but place the rest behind Stan Sport’s paywall.

I read a bit and AFL is still foxteks number 1 product - based on more than just ratings - I think the whole ratings thing is seem differently by those who matter like ad buyers. I would hazard a guess from various things I read that if one sport had to be chosen - AFL would be first pick. The saving grace for nrl is soo it seems.

where you getting this info from Freddy,
NRL have blown ratings out of the park this season>>

AFL have more sponsors Brands as whole on FOX> ive heard this one before.

but does not mean you have more dollars from Sponsors on FOX

there is alot more advertising for AFL which is what it could be for a FTA network >>
I guarantee you Ch7 make more than ch9 do for AFL to NRL simply because of Breaks galore to NRL.
SOO evens up the playing field.

but for FOX> its subs > and NRL have a huge uptake.

See in the eyes of the tv excs and advertisers the AFL is worth more and ratings systems are not taken seriously by any one except NRL fans

Australian Rugby League Commission chairman Peter V’landys has declared war on Channel 9 in the lead-up to the NRL grand final, after the Today show heavily promoted the AFL grand final.

According to Code Sports, the NRL was inundated with complaints, and V’landys personally issued a please explain email after Nine’s breakfast program heavily promoted their rival league, which free-to-air rival Channel 7 has the rights to.
Code reports that the AFL got more airtime than the NRL finals last week on Today, and it led to several clubs complaining to V’landys about the level of promotion.

The report notes that one club official, who chose not to be named, said, “Channel 9 did a better job promoting the AFL than Channel 7, their rights holders.

It is not the first time Channel 9 has promoted the AFL over the NRL either, as two years ago they took the Today show to Adelaide to spruik the AFL’s Gather Round

And a look at the numbers shows exactly why the NRL’s feathers are ruffled.

Saturday’s decider between Brisbane and Geelong had a viewership of a whopping 6.09 million people on Channel 7’s main channel and 7Plus.

The AFL audience was slightly more than last year’s Lions v Swans decider, with the showcase event continuing to outperform the NRL grand final.
