Yes - Perth bears it should be. Never liked the concept of west coast eagles either - not greater western Sydney - and bring back Footscray :)
Yeah never been a fan of the West Coast name either and GWS or Greater Western Sydney is just plain dumb when the club is officially and legally registered as Western Sydney Football Club.

Back to the Bears, I still think they’ll struggle for relevance in AFL mad WA. Especially if they don’t have quick on field success. Not sure mooted Sunday arvo timeslots to satisfy the eastern states and tv will work either.

Dumping the Western Bears name is a good start though.
WA is all basically Eagles or Freo, but the traditional big 4 AFL clubs do have some good support over here also.
the popularity and success of the NRL team will depend on mostly support from the South african, Poms and Irish and CO of whom there are lots of and love there Union.

it will be interesting of the Bears have this unusual success of like the Storm have had of never finishing lower than 6th on the ladder 3 times in 27 years and never really produce any local players

he ARL Commission is preparing to axe the Western Bears name ahead of the new franchise’s entry to the NRL in 2027.

It comes as the expansion side’s preferred coaching candidate, Brad Arthur, says he would relish the opportunity of leading the NRL’s 18th team in their inaugural season.

As revealed by this masthead, the Arthur has been identified to spearhead rugby league’s $85 million expansion into Western Australia.

The addition of the Bears will represent a $17 million bonanza for NRL clubs, who will each receive a $1 million financial sweetener for backing an 18-team league.

PERTH BEARS
OR
WA BEARS

are the Favourites
Yea
im hearing Perth Bears
they'd be the only professional football team over there bearing the cities name

as for $
the TV deal will increase by up to 40 mill of which the clubs will get 20 mill as per the enterprise agreement
so the cash injection for each club will be 2.5 mill
I guess since you said professional that rules out the Perth Glory

100% i prefer city / suburb names to South, west etc.

regards to Perth Bears, i recan the NRL and the Club will find it alot easier to succeed financially than the Storm did.
and fan base will be alot stronger.

Yeah - any sense of the bears being simply a transplanted east coast team or of being treated poorly by east coast and it’s the bye bye bears. It needs to be seen as a perth team above anything else .

I hate it when Gold Coast play in Northern Territory too - takes the team away too long and you lose any momentum of building a sense of it being our team. IMHO
interesting that you said that, i was looking at SUNS schedule (back to back home games in Darwin)
than away returning, its like a month away from a home game. (very stupid)

Bears will be a PERTH team, everything will be in Perth admin training facilities and development pushed.
only thing coming out of sydney will be like South Melbourne to the swans (fans and players)
im hearing 1 trial game in Sydney.

Perth Bears makes sense. Its simple and represents where the club is and its connection to the NS Bears. As a location it is very much like South East Qld where large numbers of Victorians have moved to. Perth has many former eastern states workers plus Poms and South Africans who would be partial to RL.

On field success will be tougher. No one is going to replicate the Storm. They won a premiership in their 2nd season. That won't ever happen again.

The environments will be totally different in 2027 for the Bears then 1998 was for the Storm

i think the grant ( central distribution) was about 4 million for the Storm in 1998
it was only 3 months after the super league war ended & the codes brand strength was poor , so sponsors were not jumping up out of the ground to get involved

the grant for the Bears in 2027 will be 25 million & sponsors will be knocking each other out of the way to get involved on both sides of the country.

Leroy will the legal identity of the club be shifter over to WA with its name do you know?

with the merger with the of fitzroy lions and the Brisbane bears, Brisbane adopted the name Lions and some of the logos, the still legal identity of the Fitzroy lions remains in Victoria and as a seperate identify

says google AI chatGDP thing
Yes, the Fitzroy Football Club is still a registered team, but in a different context than its former AFL presence. The club continues to operate in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA), and also has a soccer club, Fitzroy Lions Soccer Club. While Fitzroy was merged with the Brisbane Lions in the AFL, the club retains a legal entity and a strong community presence, especially within the VAFA.

interesting stats from PERTH

The new Perth Bears NRL franchise wants your best 14-20 year old players( will target SOUTH AFRICAN PLAYERS) Teenagers and develop.

Billy Moore said the Bears currently have 2,000 juniors in North Sydney Comp
Perth bears franchise has 6,000 registered players in PERTH local comps

Perth have no NRL team but have more Junior registrations than Melbourne Storm who have been in the comp for 27 years

Let that sink in

BEARS will offer members in NSW memberships for Away games. (something that is not really done in NRL)

they have 3 times the number playing (6K) then in the North Sydney district (2K) , albeit Norths is a small district.

Lots of South Africans and English who prefer their Rugby Union for sure. Twiggy Forrest is a big Union fan and financial backer too yeah?
