Re: Its " official" the WA Bears are in for 2027
But I'd say no , DAZN & 9 have a contract for 2027
STV will get the 9th game , so 9 won't be paying anymore
The interesting thing will be if DAZN have to cover it , or if the NRL can reject what they offer for it , if they lowball ...
& sell it to someone else ?

Gonna be interesting. At the moment there is talk the NRL are going start and run a new RL comp in Europe with the top pommy sides and 2 French teams. They're apparently going to bundle all elite levels of the game i.e. NRL, Superleague, SOO and internationals together and sell them to the respective local markets and worldwide for top $$$$$$$$.azif wrote: Fri Apr 25, 2025 2:01 pmBut I'd say no , DAZN & 9 have a contract for 2027

Did the NRL in the contract have a clause for a 18th team during deal and to redo contract for a 9th game in 5th year of deal ?
going to broadcasters and say lets do a 6 year deal this year rules out competition i would think..
can the NRL claw back some money in year 2027 with 9th game which was under sold.

Re: Its " official" the WA Bears are in for 2027
its one thing to have a clause giving DAZN first option on the 9th game ... I think thats certainly probableleeroy*NRL* wrote: Sat Apr 26, 2025 10:33 amfew interesting things on this topic.azif wrote: Fri Apr 25, 2025 1:50 pmnow

but what will they pay for it ?
When the phins came in there was 12 extra games & fox paid 20 million more , but those 12 extra games were spread out over an 8 game a week schedule , over 27 rounds
this is different
I have no doubt this 9th game is worth 40 million more again , & if DAZN aren't willing to pay that we would have the right to sell it to someone else who will

Re: Its " official" the WA Bears are in for 2027
he ARL Commission is preparing to axe the Western Bears name ahead of the new franchise’s entry to the NRL in 2027.
It comes as the expansion side’s preferred coaching candidate, Brad Arthur, says he would relish the opportunity of leading the NRL’s 18th team in their inaugural season.
As revealed by this masthead, the Arthur has been identified to spearhead rugby league’s $85 million expansion into Western Australia.
The addition of the Bears will represent a $17 million bonanza for NRL clubs, who will each receive a $1 million financial sweetener for backing an 18-team league.

im hearing Perth Bears
they'd be the only professional football team over there bearing the cities name
as for $
the TV deal will increase by up to 40 mill of which the clubs will get 20 mill as per the enterprise agreement
so the cash injection for each club will be 2.5 mill

Perth Bears sounds good. Much better choice than Western Bears and not sounding like the defunct Western Reds.

Yes - Perth bears it should be. Never liked the concept of west coast eagles either - not greater western Sydney - and bring back Footscray

Well said beatup. Good on ya pal. Behind that façade of bias idiocy lurks an at times lucid and almost reasonable persona.Beaussie wrote: Sun Apr 27, 2025 6:03 pmPerth Bears sounds good. Much better choice than Western Bears and not sounding like the defunct Western Reds.

Yeah never been a fan of the West Coast name either and GWS or Greater Western Sydney is just plain dumb when the club is officially and legally registered as Western Sydney Football Club.Fred wrote: Sun Apr 27, 2025 6:57 pmYes - Perth bears it should be. Back to the Bears, I still think they’ll struggle for relevance in AFL mad WA. Especially if they don’t have quick on field success. Not sure mooted Sunday arvo timeslots to satisfy the eastern states and tv will work either.
Dumping the Western Bears name is a good start though.

Yeah - any sense of the bears being simply a transplanted east coast team or of being treated poorly by east coast and it’s the bye bye bears. It needs to be seen as a perth team above anything else .
I hate it when Gold Coast play in Northern Territory too - takes the team away too long and you lose any momentum of building a sense of it being our team. IMHO
