Re: Footy Crowds - 2025
It’s an interesting question - do you think if the nrl in Sydney could draw large enough crowds consistently that they’d have ground rationalisation like the AFL or is the need for traditional home games/grounds paramount? You’d have to think that if a team knew they could easily get an extra 20000 to a game they would ?
My other gripe - Melbourne and Gold Coast was never going to be a big crowd pulled - was it only at the “G” as a Melbourne “home” - if so I think that is silly - not like Melbourne train or do anything else on the ground but play there. Should have been moved. Maybe it’s about contacts with mcg and all that.

Re: Footy Crowds - 2025
Sydney's NRL clubs , unlike bumbleball clubs in Melbourne , have proper home grounds. They are tucked away in suburbia in the traditional areas where these clubs originated from. & they are spread out far & wide across Sydney , across bridges & waterways or on the fringes of the greater metropolitan area. The situation gives these clubs a proper home ground advantage that derpball clubs in Melbourne do not have , one of the reasons clubs are reluctant to be moved into central venues , but the downside is it limits the ability of these clubs to grow any further then they have in recent times.Fred wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 11:09 amIt’s an interesting question - do you think if the nrl in Sydney could draw large enough crowds consistently that they’d have ground rationalisation like the AFL or is the need for traditional home games/grounds paramount? And grow they have
A game between Roosters & Titans 10 years ago at 6pm on a Friday in rainy weather would have struggled to get 7K , The warriors at Campbelltown with wests coming off 3 spoons in a row in pouring rain 10 years ago ?
5K
Sydney's NRL fans are up & about , & the trend is only going north
nothing surer

They are tucked away in suburbia in the traditional areas where these clubs originated from. & they are spread out far & wide across Sydney , across bridges & waterways or on the fringes of the greater metropolitan area. LOL! Are you going to cry a river? You are so jealous of the AFL's huge crowds. The Thugby can only dream of having the huge crowds that the AFL gets. You say proper home grounds? Those so called home grounds for the Thugby are mostly little goat tracks LOL.azif wrote: Mon Mar 31, 2025 1:39 pmSydney's NRL clubs , unlike bumbleball clubs in Melbourne , have proper home grounds. Friday night
Geelong vs Melbourne @ GMHBA Stadium - Geelong
Crowd: 30,397
NRL
Friday night
Penrith vs North Queensland @ Commbank Stadium - Parramatta
Crowd: 10,320
South Sydney vs Sydney Roosters @ Accor Stadium - Sydney Olympic Park.
Crowd: 22,114
Over 60,000 empty seats at Accor Stadium in RL heartland for the Pride of the League vs the Roosters, the traditional rivals.
Meanwhile lol, across town at the Sydney Roosters home ground:
Women’s soccer attracting a bigger crowd than 3 Sydney based NRL clubs playing in the apparent Western Sydney RL heartland.

The crowd at the Bulldogs V Newcastle game across the road at Accor from the fumbling , stumbling & missing at the showground won't be far off being 10 times bigger too

Re: Footy Crowds - 2025
Decent crowd for the suns game today - can’t stand In my usual spot on the wing as three deep. Game is pretty ordinary though - very scrappy and lots of mishandling.
