I think SA and WA are easy options if they choose to go there - but don’t see any upside apart from being easy.

NT - or a Northern Australia concept not a fan of - small fan base, spread out. Don’t like it at all. They schedule games there to have a presence - not as a prelude.

Brisbane - there could be something taking in west Brisbane (encompassing toward ipswitch) that has a decent grassroots support - although lions setting up their base out that way ? Plus Aussie rules is already going sufficiently well I feel - build on what they have - but down the track definetely.

Canberra is the obvious place a new team should be but have gws there kind of takes that out. A new team and gws out of Canberra would be a win win for both but can’t see gws moving.

Fir mins - the obvious choice is Newcastle. Yes, RL is dominant but that’s the point - to grow the game in new areas. There is a strong Aussie rules culture in the region and a long history. It’s not too far from Sydney and being a regional town, if they start winning, locals jump on board quick - similar to Perth with a new NRL team. That, to me, seems plainly obvious.

Discuss.
Newcastle ?      :(/ :(/ :(/
you think western Sydney is a no go zone for fumbleball , it'd be a picnic compared to Newie
, you may as well wear a dress to work as fumble stumble & miss up there , you'd be considered less of a knob :(/ :(/ :(/ :(/

pipe dreams , & delusions
one day fumblers will join us in the real world

thats hardly a ringing endorsement

a mob that can get 5K to a game ?

as i said , they'll take a leaf from the NRL
theres no rush to 20 teams when there are ZERO viable options
Most AFL fans dislike the byes, 19 teams will of course mean there will be a bye every week which will turn off more fans.
I think they will go to 20 teams fairly quickly after tassy comes in.
20 teams and a split round in the middle of the season.
Likely candidates? In order of probability, another WA side, Canberra, NT in some form (with federal govt backing like whats happening with the NRL PNG side), Qld and then another NSW team,
didn't WA tell AFL house to fuck off ?
Canberra has those oxygen thieves the grants , thats not changing

& Darwin is the size of Ballarat , but 2000kms from anywhere

like I said captain
NO viable options
Nah, they will go to 22 sides eventually….options all over.
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.
Rugby league, Australias most popular game in some of North Eastern Australia.

The option of another team in Adelaide and WA are always there for the AFL should they need.

A New Team in Adelaide playing at a different Home Ground to the Adelaide oval would add something i feel
the same said with a new Perth team

IF they added teams and plonked them in at Optus or Adelaide Oval, it would be hard to succeed. over pretty 2 decent followings in the city.

For Example Norwood Slightly redeveloped to 25k.. would be terrific

wouldn't be ready for the Bears entry in 2027 , so a few years at an un developed HBF & the occasional block buster at Optus

but exciting developments for this new team

AFL & NRL have Plenty of options.

i feel as to Huge Growth Expansions.. NRL have Bigger ones to develop (like they have States lol) like untouched.
in saying There's huge growth opportunities in both codes.

i like the idea of 22 sides 21 rounds plus finals

They’d be crazy not to have a nice stadium for the new team. I think 40000 would be silly - maybe 25000.

discussions late last year had the stadium at 28k
not saying it will go to 40k.
but its not a big difference.

Yeah - 25000 to 28000 - but a smaller stadium otherwise you have it half empty most of the time, looks crap on TV and Rob’s the venue of any atmosphere.
