ROUND ONE BECOMES THE HIGHEST ATTENDED ROUND OF FOOTY OF ALL-TIME

The AFL is thrilled to announce that Round One of the 2025 Toyota AFL Premiership Season has broken the record of the highest ever attended round with 431,505 fans attending matches across the weekend.

It is only the fifth time in history more than 400,000 fans have attended a single round.

The average attendance in Round One was 47,945.

Thursday night kicked off with the third consecutive crowd of over 80,000 for the opener between Carlton and Richmond, marking the eighth time in history this match has delivered a crowd of 80,000 plus in Round One.

The 80,735 fans who attended the Hawthorn vs Essendon match up was the highest ever home and away crowd between these two clubs. The previous best was 78,294 in 2017, while Sydney and Brisbane saw their Grand Final rematch reach 34,906, the largest crowd between these two clubs in 19 years.

some good crowds - shame about the Melbourne GWS crowd but even that still is above NRL average. The Sydney crowd at the SCG seemed pretty good in the end also. And the Perth crowd was a cracker given the Suns and WC playing and WC doing poorly for a few years now.

Can't wait for next week. Will the wanna be Pies (Port) supporters fall off after last week? Think will still see a reasonable crowd. Then we have St Kilda and Geelong at Marvel = I think that will be packed. And the Lions at home and unfurling the flag so you'd expect a decent crowd - although is West Coast so if you have a three game or otherwise limited membership many may choose a better game to go to - but. North V Melbourne may be the low attended event - both teams struggle to pull a crowd - and North have been languishing for some time. Expect another big crowd in Perth for the Freo v Swans - they certainly love thier AFL over there that is for sure.

17,586 is so embarrassing for the Melbourne Storm.
