Great result for Channel 7 with all things considered.

TV ratings were up from last season. The late start to the AFL season drew 651k for Seven including 53k on BVOD. That was up on 638k last year.

Be interesting to see the Fox/Kayo numbers and how they compared to Channel 7’s broadcast.

I'm always interested in how Sydney and Brisbane rate for AFL games - particularly when no local team is playing. Maybe this weekend no good for Brisbane given the power outages - but keen to watch throughout the year.

As an aside, I watched on my phone the Pies game - after travelling around to find a connection - was the BYOD ratings up in Brisbane - gold coast even?

well if fumbleball hadn't interfered with how ratings used to be presented & a 5 city metro breakdown was shown
but
it was waaayyyy too embarrassing & derpball houses false propaganda about how well it was going in NSW & QLD was being shown to be the utter crap it was ...
that & now foxtel ratings being stopped from being published & again fumbleballs embarrassment there being eased as well.

The AFL doesnt get a say in how Oztam distribute ratings and had even less to do with foxtel moving to Kantar.

New records set for Fox Footy.

AFL Opening Round lifts FOX FOOTY viewership by 29%
Kyle Laidlaw
10 March 2025

The Sydney vs Hawthorn match set a new record as the most-streamed AFL season opener, while the GWS vs Collingwood game also saw a rise in numbers.

From Foxtel:

Fox Footy, on Foxtel and Kayo Sports, has experienced a surge in viewership as the new AFL broadcast deal kicked off with 2025 Opening Round.

With new graphics and dedicated commentary for the first time, average audiences on Fox Footy for 2025 Opening Round lifted 29% on 2024’s Opening Round.

The Opening Round clash between Sydney Swans and Hawthorn Hawks was up 35% on the Sydney Swans v Melbourne Demons first game of the season in 2024 and is the most streamed AFL season opener of all time. It was also the second most watched AFL season opener of all time.

The Sydney v Hawthorn game also achieved the highest average audience ever for a sporting match on BINGE, bringing new audiences into the sport.

The Sunday afternoon game between GWS Giants and Collingwood Magpies rose 20% on the same match-up which was played on a Saturday night in 2024.

Fox Sports Managing Director Steve Crawley said:

“It’s a long race and we have just begun. So many of our Queensland and Northern New South Wales customers are cut off, and while our first numbers might be up year-on-year nationally we’ll hold the celebrations until everything is back to normal.”
