1. Get rid of the “greater”
2. No home gsmes in Canberra. Could still play in Canberra but as the away team - hawthorn and north could sell their home gsmes instead.

Agree- that is the challenge - but I feel a challenge needing to taken. Definitely have stuffed it up and need to do something. It is good there is a few local leagues in the area - and whilst some promising numbers (of actual players playing in teams) was noted early - following Covid the reports are this has apparently dropped - again - not a good sign. But it is unchartered territory and mistakes bound, and have, happened - and need to be addressed. There is simply no apparent soul to the club - no community feel. Plastic is the right word I would say. I will look up how many leagues and actual clubs exist in the area - at least this is some base possibly.

Re: NRL EXPANSION
These are the clubs listed in Sydney as a whole - they list 3 as in Greater Western Sydney and a few in South West Sydney and Western Sydney????
https://sydneyafl.com.au/find-a-club/
Then there is several divisions it would appear across these.

They call AFL the 1% sport in Western Sydney ( its participation %) , Western Sydney is considered west of Homebush to PenrithFred wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 4:03 pmThese are the clubs listed in Sydney as a whole - they list 3 as in Greater Western Sydney and a few in South West Sydney and Western Sydney????

an enormous area. GWS are in their 12th season in Western Sydney & there are some suggestions the participation rates for afl in western sydney have gone... down.. in this period. Its a disaster

I heard that too - that after Covid it had gone down or at least stagnated. Definitely a lot more work to be done.azif wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2024 8:32 amThey call AFL the 1% sport in Western Sydney ( its participation %) , Western Sydney is considered west of Homebush to PenrithFred wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 4:03 pmThese are the clubs listed in Sydney as a whole - they list 3 as in Greater Western Sydney and a few in South West Sydney and Western Sydney????

what is the right name for the PERTH FRANCHISE
Perth bears
West Coast Bears
WA Bears
(for me PERTH is the way forward and smarter choice)

but enormous doubts still surround PNG , another year will make little difference to them being ready , they won't.
IMO they won't be ready in another 30 years either
When Albo loses the next election , some saying it will be March 2025 ( & he will lose ) the PNG dream will be over

So much more benefit in having Another QLD team & NZ2 along with Perth
leave PNG to Internationals Only and they have there own League Digicel 12 Pro Comp

Re: NRL EXPANSION
Yep, Im all for improving pathways for RL in PNG & this needs to be encouraged by the ARLC & they should seek assistance from the Govt for that too, but a PNG NRL is a bridge too far & will be for decades to come.leeroy*NRL* wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 3:15 pmagree, $600million over 10 years NRL are getting ripped off) it is no way near enough money..azif wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 5:49 pmno brainer Perth for 2027leeroy*NRL* wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 3:39 pmBIG NEWS IN RUGBY LEAGUE

Agree - I think as a power in the region Aust Gov should take some role in PNG - and if that is through RL why not - but is that the best way?azif wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 10:04 amYep, Im all for improving pathways for RL in PNG & this needs to be encouraged by the ARLC & they should seek assistance from the Govt for that too, but a PNG NRL is a bridge too far & will be for decades to come.leeroy*NRL* wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 3:15 pmagree, $600million over 10 years NRL are getting ripped off) it is no way near enough money..azif wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 5:49 pm

It would be the most effective certainly , RL is not a sport in PNG its a religionFred wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 12:42 pmAgree - I think as a power in the region Aust Gov should take some role in PNG - and if that is through RL why not - but is that the best way?azif wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 10:04 amYep, Im all for improving pathways for RL in PNG & this needs to be encouraged by the ARLC & they should seek assistance from the Govt for that too, but a PNG NRL is a bridge too far & will be for decades to come.leeroy*NRL* wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 3:15 pm

Unfortunately it is an impoverished 3rd world country as well & not in any position to support an NRL side.

Re: NRL EXPANSION
News ltd media reporting that PNG is about to be confirmed as one of the three new NRL teams with the backing of the Australian govt.
Whether its 18 , 19 or 20 is yet to be confirmed.
As i indicated earlier in this thread I thought they would be announced as 19 to enter in 2028 after Perth in 2027
NZ2 in 2030.
As I also indicated the condition of entry being the govt funding for a minimum of 10 years is precarious & if Labor lose the 2025 election this PNG franchise will go with them. NZ2 will be fast forwarded
& 20 could go to a south west corridor SE QLD team
