They already have a bigger following than GWS and The Suns combined. They should have been added to the comp 2 decades ago.

Devils will generate $ $ $ economic activity .
Tourism
Employment opportunities
Sponsorships

It will be an industry within itself.

When you consider there is 3 or 4 surplus clubs in Melbourne that need big subsidies to be viable then it is not unreasonable to help a state in building just one club, it's only fair.

From Foxsports today.
Abridged.
“ A primary condition of the Devils receiving a licence from the AFL last May to become the competition’s 19th club was the guarantee a state of the art facility would be built in Hobart.

Prior to the Tasmanian election in March, the opposition Labor Party refused to fully support plans for a 23,000 seat stadium to be developed at Macquarie Point amid concerns about the financial implications for the state.
At the time, Labor’s economic spokesman Dean Winter said the financial case for the build, which is estimated at $715 million, “doesn’t cut muster” and “does not make sense”.
But six weeks after the election, with Winter now the opposition leader after the Liberal Government led by Jeremy Rockliff formed a minority government, he has reversed course.

“A stadium will mean thousands of jobs in construction, including hundreds of apprenticeships,” Mr Winter said.

“That’s why Labor will be backing a new stadium.

Voting for recent upper-house elections is continuing but it is likely an agreement between the two major parties will lead to an agreement to begin the build next year.“
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.
