AFL CEO Andrew Dillon is adamant that his code is still No.1 in Australia, despite the NRL’s successful start to its season in Las Vegas.
Asked about the well-documented aim of Australian Rugby League Commission chairman Peter V’Landy to take the top spot, Dillon was resolute.
“What we focus on, honestly, is our sport and what we do – and by any measure, we’re the No.1 sport,” he said. “What we’re focused on is just getting our game to as many people as possible.”

can window dress the success of the afls pathetic response to Vegas all he wants , he seems a bit rattled by PVL & will be no match for Lord Peter.
he can trumpet the 4 sellout crowds all he wants
these are the pertinent questions..
are there any " new " fans attending ? , or are they just Victorians flying up to pad these crowds along with the same afl fans there already who'd go anyway?
why weren't these games on last week when there wasn't any NRL in Australia ?
why is the entire draw stuffed up as a result of this round ?
was this a response to the NRL being in Vegas ?
if so , why did the afl need to respond at all ?
what will the TV ratings be like in NSW & QLD ?
and finally
why are you scared of Peter Vlandys ?

To be fait, Vlandy's tries to claim The Everest as the biggest horse race too (or maybe I imagined that). I think he has done well for the NRL, the Las Vegas thing was a success - if not just in Australia where awareness was raised outside NSW and QLD - and was a cracking match - but think there are many other metrics he needs to surpass AFL before he can claim being the Number 1 sport - watching the interview he clearly seemed to have a smile and tongue in check type response. But I think he is giving it as good a go as you can give though and who knows - one day??
