I’ve always wondered what the true value in contra actually is. I’ve seen for instance, in years gone, AFL ads for games in Sydney, shown on Channel 7 and 7mate after the actual game has already been played. Surely the AFL wouldn’t be purchasing advertising slots themselves for game promotion after the event.

How do the codes track and measure the contra?

Would be great if it meant more AFL exposure in the nightly sports news bulletins as a starting point in Sydney and Brisbane.

Contra also involves editorial space in all the media the broadcasters own. I.E. Fox have pay tv and newspapers. 9 has FTA tv and newspapers. Etc. Etc. So when you see Swans stories in the Daily Telegraph and/or any AFL content part of that is guaranteed by the contra deal. Same re the Storm in Melbourne.

Re fumblehouse having an advertising blitz, development officers in schools and grassroots in the northern states: It's been happening for decades. The result has been minimal. It's mainly effected wealthy area's that are traditionally Rugby Union. We all know the fumblers prefer white rich kids. GWS are invisible in the western suburbs.

The latest broadcast deal will change nothing. The NRL are running at a profit and will equal or surpass the fumblers in the next deal. All the huffing and puffing by the fumble fans and urgers is laughable.

ive never heard of 450mill until recently.

NRL is so scrambled and all over the place.. (they would make it alot better if they did it all at once like AFL)

Of course they do. Its always been part of the process. Its almost never released at announcement time these days, but both the AFL and NRL still report it annually.

are we saying Contra is worth $300mill plus
and Telstra $200mill plus to the overall deal.
