it is actually not true in this day and age..

you actually make more money from tv than attendance at games.
Bums on seats money goes (mostly) directly to the clubs involved.
& where does TV money go exactly ?
the forrest elves ?    :(/ :(/
Some of it to the clubs, a lot in AFL admin and costs, and the money that goes to the clubs is “equalised” with the clubs having difficulty sometimes getting more.

Membership and attendance income goes to the clubs concerned, (and some to the grounds depending on each clubs deals).
The more attendance (and membership) the more income for that club.
Not hard to understand for most….

Its about perspective. The AFL (HQ) does make more money from TV than it does other segments combined - at least at the moment. Last year of 366m in broadcast revenue, the AFL distributed 300m to clubs.

Half the clubs in the league make more from gate takings and memberships than they do from their share of the tv rights distribution. Another 5 make more money from sponsorship as well.

For your average AFL club, the AFL distribution comes to about 25% of the clubs income.

And only 15,206 at a venue with a capacity of 82,000. TV ratings mean nothing.

More AFL viewers in Brisbane than NRL viewers in Melbourne, despite the Melbourne Demons absolutely thrashing the Brisbane Lions and the awesome Melbourne Storm giving the Brisbane Broncos a hiding. NRL still the big winner in Brisbane on Channel 9 though with the AFL hidden away on 7mate and the Lions smashed from start to finish. To be expected I guess.

Interesting demos last night with the AFL on 7mate and very competitive and even beating Nine News in Brisbane in the younger 16-39 demographics. I am honestly not sure how these demos are interpreted by the networks and have never taken notice of them before.

Wookie, I’m curious, do they reveal anything of value or any insights? AFL audience is younger perhaps? :hmm:

The Lions were terrible and thrashed from start to finish by the Demons.

Meanwhile, the Melbourne Storm were smashing the Broncos from start to finish, yet just 31,000 Melbourne viewers bothered to take an interest. Yep… 31,000

FRIDAY NIGHT NRL LIVE Nine Network 312,000 135,000 31,000 128,000 10,000 7,000

Tez, where were all the Storm fans in Melbourne to see their dominant Top 4 Storm smash the Broncos? They have the most members in the NRL right? :hmm:

Melbourne viewers clearly preffered watching the AFL and home improvement or gardening shows.

Even Bluey and Peppa Pig rate better than Rugby League with the local team playing in Victoria. What’s going on Tez? I thought Melbournians loved sport. Just not their own Top 4 team in the National Rugby League eh?
