Magic Round was not just an enormous occasion for the 130,000 fans who braved the shocking weather. It was also the highest-rating round ever on Fox League, with an average audience of 470,000 across Fox Sports and Kayo.

One game is scheduled for 22/5/22.
With the note other games scheduled soon.
The 21/5/22 “magic round” 6 clubs isn't happening but at least something is.
Season opener has been postponed until 4/6/22.
Still only 1 game published.
Atlanta Rhinos site active.
NARL site has not posted anything about the 2022 season.
All other member club sites inactive or underdevelopment.

USARl site has reports of a knockout 9’s comp, but little else.

Former Bradford Bulls star on American rugby league limbo
20th May 2022

FORMER Bulls star Glenn Morrison should be getting excited for the start of the North American Rugby League season with Cleveland tomorrow, but he and the club have been left in limbo.
The league, which also contains former Super League side Toronto, was due to start in 2021, but was postponed due to Covid, and amid criticism over logistics and the absence of a necessary sixth team, this year’s proposed start date of May 21 has fallen by the wayside.
Morrison, who balances his role as Cleveland’s director of rugby with being player-coach at Bradford Salem and head of athletics at Bradford Grammar School, said: “We had a meeting on Tuesday night.

“I spoke to (Cleveland’s coach and founder) Monte Gaddis and we spoke to the board.
“I can’t say too much but everything is up in the air at the moment.
“It was looking promising when we had a start date, but it’s been pushed back again, so there’s that uncertainty.”
It is frustrating for Cleveland, who are active on social media and desperate to get going.

Morrison said: “We’ve still got the players training twice a week, we’ve rolled out programmes in schools and we’re promoting the league.
“We’re getting ready, but we’re not getting the answers we need from the league.
“The passion of the club for rugby league is fantastic. We’re doing everything we can to grow the game here and from our end, we’re doing all we can to be ready for the league starting.”
Morrison insists there is still major potential for rugby league in America, saying: “There is growth that can happen if we can just get started with this league.
“It will 100 per cent be huge if it comes off.
“Americans love the game when they see it and there are plans to do a sort of Magic Weekend every weekend in cities across the US.
“That would be great, so we just need the green light now to see those games kick off. I’m still hopeful.”

WOW!

The 2022 Betfred Rugby League Challenge Cup Final attracted an average BBC TV audience of more than 1.1million and a peak of 1.5million – the greatest audience share of any Challenge Cup Final since 2008 and the highest peak since 2016.

This weeks (4/6/22) NARL game between Atlanta and Cleveland is now being advertised as a pre-season game on the Atlanta site.

Oddly the Cleveland site does not mention this game or any others for that matter.

The pre season NARL match did take place but between Atlanta and Washington DC. Atlanta won 34 - 24.
Still no information on when the season starts or how many teams are involved.

This weekend the USAFL played at least 9 games.
And the CAFL had at least 4 male and 4 female ganes.

The USARL kicked off last weekend with one game and three scheduled this weekend.
7 teams, with two conferences. North with three teams, South with four teams that are all based in Florida.

The NARL has not progressed beyond one preseason game as yet.
Only Atlanta, Cleveland and DC seem to be operational at any level.
The West Coast leagues haven't posted any recent info.

Ive followed, well, I think closely. Not sure they have one division working.
The North American professional league attempt seems to have stuffed up rugby league in the US.

I think the fact that the ex USARL clubs that left to join the NARL, have not, or not been allowed to, rejoin the USARL when one league appears to be dead in the water, and the other, although operational, is struggling for teams, speaks volumes for the state of the game in the USA.
The west coast leagues also appear to be defunct at the moment.

The USA being awarded the Union World Cup for 2032 does not auger well for the future of league in the US, especially after the withdrawal of the 2025 League World Cup.

If they were smart, rugby league should play off the Union World Cup in the USA
and get the benefits of the promotion of UNION as a whole "Rugby"

Union will take the limelight of course but the game can get some positives there way

in the whole scheme of things, I actually do not want Rugby League to be successful in USA
because it would Annulate the Australian NZ and English / French Leagues for money and players.

I prefer league to be played in half to dozen nations around the world and that is it.

Much the same reason I am content for Australian rules to remain a purely Australian game.
