you could say that for last night, and every game in the first few rounds of the nrl season.
Yes that would be a factor. All your games go forty minutes longer than ours. So ,a deffinate factor.
Lol, so a portion of the 60k viewers watching AFL from Sydney and Brisbane would be nrl fans over the last 40 minutes? Given 40 minutes is about 1/4 of the entire telecast that would about 3k to the total?

Lol

Didn't you bring the subject up ? :hmm:

Im sure there would be people who would switch over. Particulaly sports lovers with PTV, or people who havent been able to watch any type of football all day.

All it takes is a handful of boxes and you'd have ten's of thousands viewers.

Thursday Night NRL *update*
756,000
Nine National 532,000 (peak 698k)
Metro: 327,000
Regional: 206,000
Foxleage: 224,000
Not too bad for 2 regional teams. Once streaming is added it'll be over 900K!!!!!
I'd say 875K
2 regional clubs with next to no following in Syd or Brisbane
both going fairly average in 2021

a pass mark

there may be some, but realistically, the last 40 minutes of the game means the average would basically only add 1/4 of a rating per person. Therefore even if 10,000 turned onto the AFL after the NRL finished, which would be surprising given the audience for the entire game is around 30k, the 10k would only count as 2.5k

Insignificant

Given that the Storm's Melbourne viewers total about 50k on Ptv, 30k on FTA how surprising would it be?

You haven't addressed the 150k watching the game on fox . and don't forget some NRL viewers who haven't got Foxtel may watch the whole match.

I don't think QLd get more viewers if own team involved per se - If a Collingwood V Richmond game was on I would think that would be preferred over the Suns V North Melbourne for instance - if on at the same time. The problem is, even though the Collingwood Richmond game would rate higher I believe, they would show the Suns v North game on FTA. Hence why I had to get Fox.
When Brisbane or Suns are involved in match you don't think the Qld. Rating figure is higher ??????????????????

I think it’s hard to say. If another match is on, like a blockbuster, then the neutral supporter will likely watch that I feel. And depends if the Suns or Brisbane are winning - if they are as Brisbane are now, then naturally you get more interest. Particuarly as Brisbane are likely to be on blockbuster matches or matches of interest rather than easy beats. I don’t think the Suns are going to draw a bigger TV audience than say a Richmond v Geelong for instance.

Big win for Channel 7 last night thanks the AFL.

Interestingly, 7mate had a bigger audience than the primary channel in Brisbane. Seems a silly decision by 7 programmers to put the Lions vs Tigers blockbuster on the secondary channel with Better Homes and Gardens well beaten by the footy and the AFL close to the NRL.

SEVEN’S AFL: FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL Seven Network 639,000 17,000 366,000 72,000 80,000 103,000
FRIDAY NIGHT NRL LIVE Nine Network 270,000 167,000 7,000 82,000 7,000 6,000

https://tvtonight.com.au/2021/05/friday ... -2021.html

A bigger regional audience for the AFL over the NRL too.

• Seven cruises to big victory off the back of AFL

TV Ratings

Seven was the clear winner last night with a #1 primary share of 22.9% and the #1 network share with 34.7%, which were both well clear of the nearest competition in Seven and the ABC.

The driving force for Seven’s win was the coverage of the AFL match between the Brisbane Lions and the defending premiers, the Richmond Tigers with 639,000 watching as the Lions defeated the Tigers in a fiery affair.

The match was easily the top program in Melbourne last night with 366,000 viewers coming from the market. The match was also the top non-news program in Adelaide and Perth.

The NRL had 270,000 watch the local derby between the St George Dragons and the Sutherland-Cronulla Sharks as the side from the Shire came away with a one-point win. The match was the #1 non-news program in Sydney last night.

AFL

Brisbane Lions vs Richmond Tigers
Seven/7mate 835,000 (Metro 639,000 Regional 196,000)
Fox Footy 214,000

NRL

Cronulla Sharks vs St George/Illawarra Dragons
Nine/Gem 453,000 (Metro 270,000 Regional 183,000)
Fox League 220,000

New Zealand Warriors vs Wests Tigers
Fox League 226,000

the contest was awesome as was the earlier game
really enjoyable to watch

but 2nd last v 11th in the NRL on a friday night ??

what was ch 9 thinking :hmm:
& pre scheduling can't be used as an excuse , its not as tho these 2 were power houses last year & were amongst the comp favourites when the schedule was done.
I'm glad we were given a break from the friday night broncos that was good , but the 2 games tomorrow are standout blockbusters & would have rated their tits off
