NO NO NO stop talking Bullshit!!
NRL has more rounds but also 2 byes. and 8 games per week.
AFL v NRL season goes onto be around exactly the same.
also AFL game is not 50% longer than the NRL game, it is around 30mins longer...
but hey, if you want to have 500 adverts in your game to get extra dollars, it works well for ya hey ???
Peth Still get both there teams Beamed into the state on FTA every year..
you dont see other sports that go ahead to ahead like NBA and NFL
because they are so different..
where as the NRL and AFL
have similar amount of teams similar amount of rounds.
formats are similar and is comparable.
(in England i have seen figures of League v Union
because they are comparable in many ways.
I'd love to see a TV ratings between RL and RU compared in England. Got a source?
8:10pm to 10:45pm is 2 hours 35mins
How you get 50% longer i have no idea....
Google away SIR do your own research...

there is almost 26 million people in Australia Wookie.The_Wookie wrote: Tue Apr 13, 2021 5:45 pmRight. So until your ratings are worth something, it doesnt really matter how many you get. Ratings is a survey based on less than 20,000 people in a country of more than 21 million.leeroy*NRL* wrote: Tue Apr 13, 2021 3:49 pmprob since the 80'sThe_Wookie wrote: Tue Apr 13, 2021 3:27 pmAll ill say is - when exactly was the last time you think the NRL got paid more for its broadcast rights than the AFL?
all i will say is,
If NRL has very limited advertising opportunities how do you think it requests so much more money
from Free to Air broadcasters.
in 1 half of football you are lucky to get 2-3 Adverts in a rugby league game...
There is you answer Mr Wookie.
And i totally do not get your reply..
(if i was Channel 9 or channel 7) from a business prospective
And Rugby league and AFL rated 2 million on Average per game..
I would pick AFL any day of the week,
advertising breaks after every goal and 3 long breaks during the game)
I will make a hell of alot more through advertising..
It is that Simple..

So they're inaccurate? Biased? We shouldn't pay any attention to them?The_Wookie wrote: Tue Apr 13, 2021 7:46 pmIm saying ratings surveys are no better than any other survey on tv viewers. The tv industry owns the ratings company sooooo no way theres a bias there.Terry wrote: Tue Apr 13, 2021 6:00 pmThis is interesting! So are you saying ratings are pointless Wookie? Or worthless? And are you speaking only of RL ratings? Please explain??

maybe he's suggesting they are an indication at best, and a guess at worst, and shouldnt be taken as literally as we do on this forum. Following the money is probably a better indicationTerry wrote: Tue Apr 13, 2021 8:19 pmSo they're inaccurate? Biased? Re: Fight Club - Football TV Ratings
From my experience in statistics from many many years ago I must say that a sample can be a very accurate inference to the population they are measuring. In saying that there.is an arguement that fta and fox are two distinct populations but do see the argument for adding end estimates together. I would like to know the standard error of each figure give however to see how accurate they may actually are.

It's pretty simple Terry, I dont give any credence to your definition of most watched. The media dont either, except for an NRL tragic Roy Masters. In fact I have never seen any program or even a network add their annual ratings together and claim they outrate another. It must be an NRL thing because they cant compete.
But, as you were Terry, I'm sure you like the title![]()

RL plays less games in a calander year & gets more veiwers

Re: Fight Club - Football TV Ratings
They hold the power of TV shows and network & talent careers in the palm of their hand. But if you’ve never been invited to be part of the OzTAM ratings system -you’re not alone.
Decades ago my family filled out a Nielsen ratings diary, but in 2001 OzTAM launched people meters. Alas you can’t volunteer to participate. Households are recruited to make up the 5250 metro households (1475 in Sydney & Melbourne, 1000 Brisbane, Adelaide & Perth both 650) while Regional is 3198 and STV 2120.
The maximum period of time that a household stays on the OzTAM panel is six years, but can elect to leave at any time.
An OzTAM spokesperson tells TV Tonight, “Households are recruited to OzTAM’s panel via a large-scale survey of more than 80,000 interviews each year. The survey selection process employs computerised random phone dialling, mostly to mobile phones but also a portion to landlines to ensure OzTAM’s panel is representative of the overall population and its characteristics in OzTAM’s coverage areas.
“All metered TV homes use self-contained meters that have their own mobile SIM for returning household viewing data.
“OzTAM’s audience sample is extremely statistically robust. On a per capita basis, Australia is the world’s largest people-metered TV market.”
OzTAM uses a different methodology, VPM, to capture viewing of internet-delivered TV content you can read here.
In June OzTAM will launch its VOZ ratings, as “Total TV” data encompassing all channels, screens and platforms.

Thurs ratings: NRL - 783k.
AFL - 813k.
Not particularly impressive for either. Once streaming is added RL should pip 'em on the post.

Re: Fight Club - Football TV Ratings
Updated numbers for NRL: 812k. A certain win over the AFL streaming inclusive.
I don't know how the AFL if faring compared to 2019 numbers but they are looking very lacklustre thus far this season.
