Re: The self anointed national sport
From my experience there is more to what is paid than just pure ratings. I would imagine that given there is a big uptake of fox in nsw and qld likely of nrl viewers that possibly the lure of obtaining more subscribers in non nrl states may make AFL more valuable. That is... “extra” subscribers. Also, given the reasonable support for AFL in qld and nsw there may be a niche market to Tap into in nsw and qld? Where’s sane wouldn’t apply in reverse.
For whatever reason ... fox seem to value AFL more .

It was why NRL have teamed up with Touch and Tag, so they are engaged in Rugby League.
as not all sports people can play Rugby League
they perfer touch and tag as it is not so Brutal on the body.
other then playing it because their mummys don't want them playing the sport they truly want to play , the sport their heros play
Rugby League
so thats the sport they attend to an extent & certainly sit down on the couch with their hot milo to watch with their families
not the bumbling mess they played earlier in the day
Exhibit A: all AFL ratings in NSW and QLD are expats, even though there are many many expats in WA from eastern state and NRL ratings are horrendous.
Ehxibit B: all AFL participants only do so because their mummies dont want them playing league. Well to a degree I think you may have a point on this one. My wife's relatives in QLD moved their kids from RL to AFL, not because of the dangers of the game, but the toothless, bogan attitudes and culture of the parents.
I know fathers of boys here in our area who play sooker or derpball , only because the mothers won't have their skinny little white sons play RL mainly. Its too rough for them
Thats the sport they want to play tho , thats the sport they watch with their fathers .. all raiders fans.
Skinny white boy scared of polynesians is a huge factor in playing numbers for sooker & bumbleball north of the murray. They're both easy soft sports to play
Unlike league which isn't.
but , thats where the engagement with those sports end

That must scare the hell out of poor Dave. Rusted on RL fans allowing their kids to play AFL instead of RL. AFL wins again.baselinepanther wrote: Sat Apr 03, 2021 9:03 amIts a factNlolRL wrote: Fri Apr 02, 2021 11:09 amDave is the king of absurd excuses.baselinepanther wrote: Fri Apr 02, 2021 8:09 am

I can assure you, the opposite isn't happening in Melbourne. The participants in RL are almost unheard of here

BTW
On Thursday 84k watched the AFL and 101k watched the NRL in Brisbane.
Only 20k watched the storm in Melbourne last night.
Seems like the AFL is Far Far more national than the NRL

So 143k watched the Broncos last night when no other sport was on, and 84k watched the AFL on Thursday night rather than the NRL.baselinepanther wrote: Sat Apr 03, 2021 1:10 pmthat was a snap census of ex pats from the bumbletard states in brisbane on thursday then , the ABS are taking those numbers down as we speakNlolRL wrote: Sat Apr 03, 2021 12:19 pmBTW

Please tell me you're not trying to spin this as some positive for a RL heartland city Dave. Those figures must be a massive worry for the NRL because they show significant interest in AFL in Brisbane.
An equivalent result in Melbourne would be the storm rating 200k. Yet last night they rated 20k with no competing AFL
Yikes

Wouldn't overlapping matches or showing FTA in different states, cut down on the matches you could watch without Fox? - It's a shit game LOL maybe there just not into it, did you ever think of that.

Yes, concurrent games are still an issue, as they always will be. Last weekend alone proved that. If they are on fox too it makes no difference as you cannot watch, nor be counted, as watching 2 games at once.
Our fox subscriptions are lower than nrl because fans in all states bar VIC can see their club on fta every week. Therefore fox ratings are a poor measure of popularity
and those games, the ones that overlap, are shown on FTA . You the ones the mob that get 2 or 3 times as many ratings. So who benefits?. But as you point out not everybody can watch these games, not unless you have Fox. No doubt you will find some negative to focus on .
