It is still the number 1 winter sport in the country - this is noted by Vlandy's and co who report wanting to become the No 1 winter sport and topple the AFL.

do I need to post again for you crapper the list of teams playing afl in QLD and NSW - the number of leagues etc. Seriously. It is played in significantly large numbers and getting larger. I could post the figures listed by the AFL but you'd say they were fudged or something - even though they break them down into categories.

Anyway - some reading - you will be even more fearful after you read this lol.

https://www.aflq.com.au/wp-content/uplo ... -FINAL.pdf

TOTAL PARTICIPATION
Total participation has grown by 54% since 2014, with female participation experiencing growth of 331% over the last five seasons. Female participants now account for 42% of total participation (2019 season). This level of growth is the result of targeted investment provided by AFL Queensland to grow the game across the state.
Total participation consists of club, Auskick and school competitions and programs. Of these participation categories, engagement in school competitions and programs comprises the majority of participant numbers, with 77% of total participation occurring within schools in 2019 (212,815).
School competitions and programs provide an introduction to AFL for many students and drives conversion into club participation.
Outside of school competitions and programs, participation in 2019 consisted of club competitions accounting for 11.5% (31,841), Auskick 10.5% (29,331) and AFL 9s 1% (3,708) of total participation.

CLUB / AUSKICK PARTICIPATION
For the purpose of this Plan, the planning focus is on facilities for club competition, Auskick and AFL 9s participation categories, as these formats generally require the use of public sporting infrastructure. In these participation formats, there has been strong growth across the board, with
participation increasing by 16% between 2014-2019. This growth trend has been reflected in male/female and junior/senior cohorts, with male participation up by 6.6%, female participation up by 48%, junior participation (5-19 year old's) up by 5.9% and senior participation (20-39 year old's) up by 52%. While South East Queensland has experienced significant growth across all participation segments, Regional Queensland has experienced lower levels of growth in traditional participation segments (male 3.1%, junior 1.1%) and high growth in emerging participation segments (female 44.4%, senior 59.6%).

That should get your juices flowing lol.

Participation and Auskick numbers are so flawed and bent...

2 AFL Football players can go to a school
and do some training drills with 4 or 5 classes
and this is counted and added to numbers.

its laughable.. over to you..

I think the thing is to look at club registrations and also kids playing in school comps. Either way you look at it it is a healthy number don't you think. The AFL now separate the figures so you get Auskick, schools, registered players.

I was waiting for the Auskick comeback from crapper lol. What are you doing!!!!!

77% of total participation occurring within schools......

Like what i said should be taken with a grain of salt, it is Events paid for by AFL
to be taken to Schools which boost numbers.

What they are doing however is good and smart for future kids to get involved.

No they have a school competition ... school v school culminating in a grand final which is quite a big even ... goes for a whole term. There is a whole independent schools competition ... my son played in it a few years back ... won the competition that was played on Sunshine Coast.

I think playing numbers do matter as another metric . It’s not just weather it rates or not. There are other things to consider. And what’s with this attitude ? There’s no need for that type of name calling crapper!! New name new beginning - we believe in you.

i Agree it is good to have playing numbers, it helps with engagement in the Sport.

It was why NRL have teamed up with Touch and Tag, so they are engaged in Rugby League.
as not all sports people can play Rugby League
they perfer touch and tag as it is not so Brutal on the body.
