Wouldn’t there be revenue from steaming though ?
The NRL would have all bases covered Fred. They've only recently spent 100m on a digital platform. I cant imagine Fox would be keen on letting there No.1 money spinners go. People will still watch the football .
Like you said steaming will always pick up the slack.

If I was you I would be more concerned with the tens of millions the AFL is forced to pay its clubs above the grant each year.

Don't wory yourself so much about the NRL. If there are any cut backs the Suns will be the first to go.
Rugby League, the dominant force in Australian sport!

You may be right there Pusey. I was more focusing on the revenue streams for the nrl. With broadcast rights a major one as it is with the afl but afl have other revenue streams the nrl don’t. Such as gate receipts . But that was not the point of the post per se but more around what will happen if broadcast money reduces significantly as this has been a discussion of late.

Look at revenue raised from non tv related sources Gollum
Fox paid more for afl and see that as a more valuable product to your little league and spending 100 million on your own platform doesn’t mean money will start growing on trees :thumbleft:

lets just it happened >> not that i think it will >>

AFL AND NRL lost 50% of Tv rights value>>

Some NRL clubs with our club grant $13mill would not be able to survive.

Most Likely Manly and Cronulla would be first to get the chop..

However Alot of NRL clubs have backing of leagues clubs and other investments.

The NRL however own squat...

(if it happened to the AFL> A few teams would most likely also so get the chop.
especially SUNS AND GWS
the AFL could not afford to fund them..

it would be hard to pick which code would be more affected by TV RIGHTS DECREASE>>

as AFL's Bill to clubs out strips NRL's

Yes no doubt it would impact both. Nrl have their leagues club revenue and afl have crowd revenue. I guess it would help to know what percentage broadcast rights make up total revenue.

If the nrl ratings started to turn south ... let’s say streaming takes off or people start turning off ... where would the nrl get revenue from? The afl have various revenue streams and whilst ratings and broadcast rights are a major source of revenue I feel they could cope or survive with a drop in revenue rights. But I wonder how the already struggling (maybe struggling is a bit strong) nrl would cope. They seem dependent on broadcast rights moreso than afl. Thoughts.
Fred that is just wishful thinking on your part.

Doesn't that answer your own question?
Australia's number 1 sport RUGBY LEAGUE. Preferred by more Australians than any other
