As recent as ESPN showing games? they've been doing that since the 80's and AR actually gained some recognition, then people actually watched the games and realised it was crap.

Yes since the 80's around the same time as a couple of exhibition matches in Canada - my point is still the same though RL was known prior to that as a result of English migration and RU. The USAFL website shows the clubs that have come into being since the late 90's which is substantial growth. I don't know but can RL say the same. The USA has also improved to such an extent that on the international stage they are now 3rd at IC3 (which Australia is not part of). Which must be considered great improvement. What I was asking is it the same for RL?pHyR3 wrote:As recent as ESPN showing games? they've been doing that since the 80's and AR actually gained some recognition, then people actually watched the games and realised it was crap.

Well America has improved to the point were they qualified for the RLWC this year and beat France in a trial game in the last day or two. In a competition that Australia IS part of.

Are they ALL home grown talent or is as one of my other posts suggest there are players in there that are citizens of other countries? That was my point - if they are expanding the code there good! But I'm concerned that they have players from other countries to prop them up.pHyR3 wrote:Well America has improved to the point were they qualified for the RLWC this year and beat France in a trial game in the last day or two. The ones who got them into the RLWC were home grown, unfortunately there are two competing codes resulting in a lot of crap when it comes to RLWC selection. But you're right, most are from other countries. I'd say on ability about 5 or 6 are good enough to be in the team, but only 2 are because of the aforementioned schism in competitions.
Still, even having a few players in the team that are comparable to fringe NRL players is pretty damn good.

No question it's good - but I hate feeling manipulated. Anyway as long as RL fans like what does it matter!pHyR3 wrote:The ones who got them into the RLWC were home grown, unfortunately there are two competing codes resulting in a lot of crap when it comes to RLWC selection. Hahahahaha.
4 new teams in the USARL this season, all teams playing out of proper facilities and gaining sponsors.
A new team called the USARL Pioneers has just played their first warm up game in Jamaica against a local reserve side, you can read all about them and what they are doing right here.

Looks like Rugby League has close to twice the following as AFL in the U.S. Both are still minor sports there though.
