At $30million for the deal to have the entire RUGBY UNION content
is the biggest bargain i recan in Australian Sport.

Channel 9 will be popping the champagne on this one

From 11/9/20
“And give potential for an increase in TV income.
Of course the broadcasters that do not rely on ad revenue may have ideas of their own.
CBS that own 10, have neglected the ptv arm, recently announced they are redoing the whole thing, CBS Rejuvenated themselves by investing heavily in sport.
Disney: well they own a lot of sport.
Amazon want more subscribers in oz, and that’s an opportunity, out of the PTV that I subscribe to, too many, I find them the cheapest and the best, adding $2 a month, or even a week....well.”

It begins

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/rugby-unio ... 55zcr.html

“Amazon, which last week secured the rights to a one-off Eight Nations tournament in Europe, previously declined to comment on whether it was involved in the local tender process. However industry sources since told The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age that they were interested, but is it unclear whether they intend to put in a formal bid. Optus was previously considered the front-runner for the rights to the rugby union but did not express a formal interest in the revised broadcast rights package when it was released last month”

And CBS, who owns 10, just announced a complete revamp (Of the 1st revamp) of 10’s PTV streaming arm to broaden its footprint in Australia.”

This is just the start...the big 2 codes could come out of this very well...the other 2 maybe not.

The details of the RU deal would be interesting since they don’t have a domestic competition yet to replace Super Rugby.
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.
Rugby league, Australias most popular game in some of North Eastern Australia.

its no more then union is worth tbh , it won't drive much of a subscription increase on stan i wouldn't think & won't be enough $$ to have RA in a position to spend any money on the codes development meaning juniors & grass roots will suffer.

Its a code going no where, similar to soccer.
the AFL & NRL continue to dominate the football scene the length & breadth of Australia.

Could this also work in reverse order. With foxtel showing 2 or 3 club games free of charge each week on a free app,and relying on advertising for these games, and taking C9 right out of the picture?
Australia's number 1 sport RUGBY LEAGUE. Preferred by more Australians than any other

its about what we expected though $30mill including contra.
with NZ and Aus doing a trans tasman series which will benefit figures than in the pass with early morning games.

its solid deal for both i recan.

but yeah it want do much to solve Union's big issues with this sort of money.

It will be interesting to see if pubs and clubs will get Stan and continue to show Super Rugby. I suspect a lot won't which must be a negative for coverage of the game.

Wow.............only 29k in Sydney for the first game of the season. Terrible. And I assume the number includes regional of 22k. That's not a good start. And the game itself was a shocker.
