nrl needs an audience of 1.2m today to catch years Week 1 finals, and audience of 2.23m to catch up to the AFL.

At the moment its NRL 72.8 to the AFL 94.8m. (without preseasons and womens competitions)

be lucky to hit 800k for todays game.

Quarter Finals in NRL are pretty much the same as the H&A season>> ratings wise.
you can see the effect with no QLD clubs in finals has on ratings for NRL come finals time.

I mean I guess you could say that's where being a truly national comp comes in handy. Not having to rely on one state and more chances of each state being represented at least once (with NSW being the only state with a team that didn't make finals this year)

100% Correct, it can really hurt NRL or it can work well to a degree.

Storm rated 76k on primary channel last night compared to 149k for the Lions on FN. Melbourne has double the population too which suggests lions are 4 times more popular on TV in their home market

kinda strange that it hits it highest figure outside of Grand Final ever..

why would the AFL being based in QLD make a difference to QLD's ratings?

just a tad , no question this contributed about 500K to the AFLs ratings from Vic over the 4 games
Similarly , QLDs NRL teams horror season was quite detrimental to the NRL's

What about the AFL ratings up significantly in pretty much every state? What about the NRL ratings tanking?
