nrl needs an audience of 1.2m today to catch years Week 1 finals, and audience of 2.23m to catch up to the AFL.

At the moment its NRL 72.8 to the AFL 94.8m. (without preseasons and womens competitions)
be lucky to hit 800k for todays game.

Quarter Finals in NRL are pretty much the same as the H&A season>> ratings wise.
you can see the effect with no QLD clubs in finals has on ratings for NRL come finals time.
I mean I guess you could say that's where being a truly national comp comes in handy. Not having to rely on one state and more chances of each state being represented at least once (with NSW being the only state with a team that didn't make finals this year)
100% Correct, it can really hurt NRL or it can work well to a degree.

Storm rated 76k on primary channel last night compared to 149k for the Lions on FN. Melbourne has double the population too which suggests lions are 4 times more popular on TV in their home market
lol lol

i think it has more do to that the AFL has based it self in QLD ?? don't you recan ?

kinda strange that it hits it highest figure outside of Grand Final ever..

this year has had everything, things will resume as per normal next year.
why would the AFL being based in QLD make a difference to QLD's ratings?
lol your kidding right..

3/4 of teams have been based in QLD for most of the year.
Add all this with a Grand Final on the horizon.
and Brisbane Lions Excelling towards a first in AFL on home soil
with media attention and interest driven.

A Final Series and Grand Final in QLD.. a AFL first for the game.
a once in a lifetime situation.

add this with no other QLD NRL team even getting close to the top 8.

Has the Victorian lock down eased at all?
just a tad , no question this contributed about 500K to the AFLs ratings from Vic over the 4 games
Similarly , QLDs NRL teams horror season was quite detrimental to the NRL's
oh, no doubt...

What about the AFL ratings up significantly in pretty much every state? What about the NRL ratings tanking?

SA has the minor premiers
WA had a well performing team all year
QLD had the lions in the top 2 for most of the year .. & their 3 NRL sides in as poor form all at the same time as anyone can remember
VIC ... yeah , what happened down there again lol

all contributing factors

and the NRLs ratings barely changed from last year ...... tanked ??.. you're kidding lol  :(/ :(/

no qld side didn't effect the ratings ?? lol
the 300K difference between this year & last would nearly have been covered in QLD alone over the 4 games

But you should then have a bump in NSW ratings due to more NSW teams in the finals. Fact is the AFL finals ratings are way up while the NRL's are way down

thanks RaiderDave. However, again, lockdown is in a single state, yet AFL ratings are up in every state.
