I agree with crapper ... we really need Sydney metro ratings if we are comparing popularity in Sydney.

I disagree with crapper that collingwood are the biggest football club in Melbourne. They are the biggest football club in Australia ...... pal!
since when was I comparing the giants popularity to 2 NRL clubs in Sydney?? :hmm:

Yes... crapper you do seem to enjoy going around the fish bowl ... but I get it little buddy. I think there are some good points though. Would be interesting if the afl ever go to showing games in isolation. What we do know is that they do seem to win when it is head to head ... once confounds are taken out. I’m surprised the afl hasn’t looked at this actually although if media buyers all ready know this maybe they don’t need to concern themselves..... leave it to code warriors on the internet to discuss why the big boys do the money deals I guess.

Maybe the reduced quarters are here to stay although they have increased breaks after each quarter and between goals. I wonder if they will continue with reduced quarters but go back to usual break times... making the games shorter and possibly being able to schedule games inderpebdently? What do you think?

PARRA v RAIDERS 319k on FOX EXCLUSIVE
now imagen that was also on FTA at the same time..

add what maybe between 450k to 500k Metro and Regionals on FTA.

Now now Leeroy, dont start swimming laps now. After all, this forum isn't for discussing sport's TV ratings, it's for discussing .....ahhhh, nevermind

The AFL get one extra FTA game per round, yes. They also have less rounds, so in the end the number of FTA games is similar. The NRL then get a massive advantage with no concurrent games

Perth and adelaide get local team broadcasting, while Melbourne misses out. Brisbane get basically the same deal with the Broncos, while Sydney misses out. The difference is pretty minimal in the end

I think the broadcasting into home markets actually hinders ratings in qld on fta.

Well if I only have fta and can’t watch my team cause the suns and Brisbane are playing I’m wouldn’t watch. I would watch on my afl app... Telstra streaming. There are a lot of afl people up here however many have an afl team other than suns and lions you see. So I certainly think if you had collingwood v Essendon on fta you’d get much higher ratings than say suns v giants if they were in competeting time slots. Me personally, I’d prefer to watch my Pies and also watch the suns... which I do... but if concurrent and has only the one choice would watch the pies.

You have a point. For example Adelaide get to watch the crowd and power every week. However if both are struggling most would probably prefer to watch the best games of the round, not 2 struggling clubs

If everybody could watch whatever match they wanted to watch on FTA then Fox woudn't be paying squillions for TV rights.
