Basketball has become a faster growing team sport than every football code globally..

Was actually really surprised by this. Apparently it has more registered players than soccer and has had enormous growth in Asia.

There are stats claiming 450 million registered basketball players globally. Is actually more than soccer (265 million).

How true this is makes me wonder. But I am guessing football (soccer) still reins supreme with global fanbase.

And there has been a huge jump in interest with the local NBL here also. Now that Andrew Bogut (who played in the NBA too) is playing for the Sydnyey Kings.

Mark Bosnich has fired back at suggestions the NBL is overtaking the A-League in terms of interest from the Australian public and expressed his bemusement as to why the two are even being compared.

The dig at the A-League came on Sunday evening when an article was published in the Australian by sports reporter Will Swanton, titled: ‘NBL slam-dunks crowd with Sydney Kings as A-League scores own goal’.

The article was referring to the record-breaking crowd of 17,514 spectators to watch the Kings defeat the Illawarra Hawks at the Qudos Bank Arena.

The old basketball seem to be making a bit of a come back here as well! It was huge in the 90s for a short while then disappeared!

If it stays on track it could over take the so called sleeping giant of Australia the old aye league

yeah no chance in hell,

most basketball tournaments around the world besides NBA are half empty.

Soccer will always be king for a long time to come.

The number is definitely BS but basketball is a popular sport.
Through out Africa and oddly enough Asia

Would be good to see the original article as to see what comprises in the definition of registered player as a basked ball game can be played almost anywhere really only requiring a hoop & small area
