Koori Knockout 2019
Rugby League is undoubtedly the game of choice for Indigenous people of this country. The NRL boasts 12% of players of Indigenous background compared to 9% in anglofl, while at community grassroots level its 17%.
The code saw the first Indigenous player to represent Australia & then the first to captain the country.
The biggest example of this community's connection to the sport will be this weekend's Koori Knockout, which is the largest gathering of first nation people in the country sporting or otherwise.

Re: Koori Knockout 2019
You've confused things & not just Judge Judy sayings.
17% comes from offical NRL site the link to which I have provided to you before.
Anglofl website in May of this year states figure as almost 10%.

Re: Koori Knockout 2019
Given an afl clubs playing list is larger than an nrl clubs, the playing numbers of afl to nrl is larger with the percentages for the nrl looking better due to a lower player base number

Re: Koori Knockout 2019
No matter how the great fumbling folk here try to denigrate it the Indigenous presence in RL is much greater than in the AFL.
More importantly though is the respect the players and the general indigenous community get from RL folk. They have been a fabric of the game since its inception. A highlight being the great Arthur Beetson. The first indigenous person to captain Australia in any sport. And way back in 1973.
And who can forget the AFL claiming in 2013 that their indigenous team to tour Ireland was the first team to tour overseas since the indigenous cricket team of 1868. And making out what a fantastic thing it was for the indigenous community of 2013.
Woops!!!!!!! An indigenous Rugby League team toured NZ in 1973. Yep. A full 40 years before the fumbling mob. So if it was such a great thing in 2013 what was it in 1973? Stupendous? Astounding? Extroadinary? All of the above.
I rest my case!!!!!!

Re: Koori Knockout 2019
Rugby League by far the more inclusive code - anglofl to this day struggles with treatment of Indigenous athletes.

Re: Koori Knockout 2019
So to sum up the post so far
The 17% that claimed to have been posted on the nrl web site is the usual made up nrl numbers & not true
And the nrlol folk are are arguing that their game is more popular with the indigenous over 1% point agsin that number hasn’t been confirmed!
Yep! The inferiority complex is still running strong

Re: Koori Knockout 2019
Griffith Three Ways beat Waterloo featuring Addo-Carr.
In addition to Griffith, Dindima made semis & Narrandera lost in quarters. All three teams from other side of Beetson line.

Re: Koori Knockout 2019
Indigenous population of Australia is 798,000 - the majority of which live in NSW & qld. If anglofl figure of 98,000 players is correct that means maybe 25% or more of all first Australians in other states are registered participants. This is why nobody believes anglofl numbers.The_Wookie wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2019 9:22 pmActually 19% according to the NRL Annual Report
https://www.nrl.com/siteassets/document ... ort_hr.pdf
The only question I have is whether thats rugby league participation or touch/league inclusive. A 19% of rugby league particpation is less than 40,000 people. (based on registered league participants in 2017 of 170,000, plus growth of 3.9% in 2018).
That said the AFL doesnt give a percentage, just a raw number of 98,446
If that number is taken as a percentage of total participation then its 6%.
