I posted the facts, yes is sad that even that long ago Australian Rules still got a crowd in Canada....what was your point again?
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.

Amazing you don't have more recent data than 80's given you seem to waste so much of your life compiling attendance figures. That hobby & your lack of awareness outside of anglofl bubble makes you come across as a sad individual. One imagines if anglofl had just one semi-pro team overseas you wouldn't resent the success league has had elsewhere. Never happen tho. Read into that what you want.

Re: Canadians like Rugby League a lot more than Chinese like AFL.
Yep typical Chuckball tactics attack the player and not the ball.
No more recent data because the VFL/AFL has not had exhibitions games there since then. On the figures not sure why, don’t really care.
But to say that attendance is not important well really.
I am not obsessed with the success league has overseas, don’t care, don’t care that Australian Rules is not successful overseas, don’t need it, don’t want it. but to say Chuckball is successful overseas, where it started, you’re kidding yourself, the best thing they do is pinch a lot of your players, not much else.

Thanks for your concern about “wasting my life” compiling figures.
Most are based on automatic search, catch and grab data bases which I had developed for non sports related information via my employment at the time. In fact before joining this and another sports related forum, the only football related data I collected was for AFL scores and margins for a work colleague of of mine and via him, same data for a couple country leagues.
Normally I might spend a maximum of 2 hours on data, not including time spent browsing this site. Generally I do both whilst waiting for connecting transport, but again thanks for your concern.

Re: Canadians like Rugby League a lot more than Chinese like AFL.
Who would have ever thought a Rugby League team based in Toronto Canada could be top of it's competition and playing for entry into the UK Superleague.
Mean while AFL gets laughed at playing games nobody cares for in China.
With bullshit claims it has a a bigger presence in Canada than Rugby League. Despite having no professional AFL teams in North America.
Currently Rugby League is ready for it's second professional team being added in 2021. (OTTAWA STAGS)

Toronto Wolfpack Toronto in name only...no North American players at all, are not based in Canada and fly in and out for all games. Run by millionaires to make a profit, cut live broadcasts of their games when the balance sheet was looking poor.
And that was when they were on a great winning streak.
May get a slightly higher attendance for this weekends game, but last week was pretty close to capacity which I think is about 9,600.
If they win the promotion they may need to look at a bigger stadium, but I think they are locked in for a while.
They were the best team last year as well, but fell at the last hurdle, if they do the same this year I think support from their owners may wain.
It will be interesting to see either way.

If club folds now, they've achieved more than any overseas professional anglofl team ever has - they've actually existed!Quolls2019 wrote: Sat Sep 14, 2019 10:54 pmNeed to get back to reality,NRL&NFLweLaughATafl wrote: Sat Sep 14, 2019 8:58 amWho would have ever thought a Rugby League team based in Toronto Canada could be top of it's competition and playing for entry into the UK Superleague.

Re: Canadians like Rugby League a lot more than Chinese like AFL.
And........ why does it seem that nrl folk here care more about how well or not so well AFL is doing overseas? AFL is in no way at the level of rl internationally .... not even close. We all agree. No one is arguing this. What is being said is that whilst rl have an international presence (that shots all over the AFL) it isn’t exactly huge.

“If club folds now, they've achieved more than any overseas professional anglofl team ever has - they've actually existed!”
So let me understand this, your measuring Rugby Leagues success against something that has not been done or even tried?
Zero argument there filly, even for you that is desperate.

They played exhibition matches in NZ where the interest in AFL was luke warm at best. Hence the reason they cancelled playing games there.
Seems to be kind of the same outcome with AFL matches in China too. Very little interest from the Chinese.
Is safe to say Rugby League is having a bit more luck with growing their game in Canada.
A national womens team (Canada Ravens) and a second professional club on it's way (Ottawa Stags)

Re: Canadians like Rugby League a lot more than Chinese like AFL.
One hundred percent correct. Rl has had more success than AFL in having games and interest overseas. AFL explored NZ at the request of st kilda . Was indeed like warm at best and ceased. AFL is a one country sport in the main, our countries sport... our national sport. Wish the AFL would stop with these China games. By all means okay exhibition games at years end or ore season but leave this overseas stuff alone.

Re: Canadians like Rugby League a lot more than Chinese like AFL.
Maybe AFL should have a crack at Ireland. At least there is some minor knowledge about the sport there. China and NZ are markets which are just far too alien for AFL.
Two more matches to win and the Wolfpack are playing in the Superleague in 2020.

Nice Video to summarize the WOLFPACK> top and bottom
hopefully the weather is good could be a record crowd against Toulouse Olympique
I would love to see both clubs in the Super League.
