Post by AngloFootballLeague »

With grand final in PNG expected to draw 15,000 this weekend & because Quolls would never post this stuff, here are peak Rugby League crowds for countries in 2019;
Australia 82,000
England 62,700
Spain 31,555
NZ 23,600
France 10,284
Canada 9,562

Toronto & Toulouse may challenge those numbers in upcoming playoffs.

Yep, a superleague game for Dragons. Toulouse recorded a best of 6,000 in championship this year.

Soccer & Rugby dwarf this of course, but sport does have greater international presence than others.

Yes anglo(don’t know what Anglophile means)filly.

All sports can have peak crowds, now post the average which is a must better gauge, of popularity.
Or would you prefer me to do it.

Going by your reasoning the peak AFL crowd would make AFL the most popular code in the world, which we all know it isn’t, just better than some others.
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.
Rugby league, Australias most popular game in some of North Eastern Australia.

You missed the point yet again. Figures indicate presence of code across globe. Stadium full of white people at anglofl game here in Australia does not.

Again, The name should give it away.....Australian Rules, don’t care about overseas...
If I were Rugby league fans I would be concerned more about Chuckball here, than the rather poor comps overseas.
Australian Rules in name and nature, but only in Australia......

I think the point is, is that you are extremely jealous of The AFL comp and are going to the extremities of the earth to prove that Chuckball is more popular overseas than Australian Rules, it is, I amongst several other posters have never argued otherwise, that it is as popular as you make out is extremely arguable, average crowds are very small, St George’s crowds would look good in any of those comps and dwarf some.
NRL is the leading Chuckball comp in the World, but not any where near the leading football code (using the term football very loosely), and not in Australia either. I would think Australian Rules fans would be satisfied with that, I certainly am.

Incorrect. Anglofl people think their game is more global than it is. In the bubble there's talk of expansion teams overseas, potential olympic games status & reports on huge international player numbers. Before failure in China had even finished this year, talk of potential game in USA was trending on social media with thousands of likes.

I don’t think anyone thinks Australian Rules Football is big overseas. I think there has been a push by the AFL to try and expand the game but more re: create an interest but that’s just good business ... to explore new markets and take risks... some work some don’t. But I think the biggest failure would be not to try and create interest. I think the AFLs is more focused on the GWS and Sydney than they are overseas growth to be honest.

it's all relative and depends on the criteria used especially here.

I think there has been a push by the AFL to try and expand the game.
The AFL has invested in N.Z., R.S.A., China and now the P.N.G.
To a much lesser degree the Pacific, Europe, Britain, Asia and Canada.
The AFL has invested some money to reward and enhance organic growth that has been achieved
in schools like Canada and Britain.

The AFL is focussed on the AFL. It is simple as that.
The AFL invests in areas where it thinks it will return AFL players.
Thus we have combines in Ireland and the U.S.A.
The AFL has ivested in N.E.A.F.L. states and N.Z.
It also has leveraged monies in the R.S.A and the P.N.G. and the Pacific.
The most impressive growth figures outside of the AFL are schools in Canada and Britain.
The most impressive feature is the P.A.F.L. club's arrangement with China.(Not an AFL push at all)
The most unacknowledged feature is the AFL Asia international league - a truly international football league
consisting of almost all countries in S.E. Asia.

I would like to see Catalans play 1 game a year in Spain (was a great effort this year)

It is great to see what Rugby League can achieve around parts of the world.
