What happened to soccer?

Post by Fred »

Was just checking out the crowd for GWS last night in Canberra where it snowed on the Ausstadiums site and noted the crowds for soccer. I was totally surprised. I’m talking tiny football type crowds like 1600 and 2200. Even victory get like 4000 at AAMI Park???? What happened to the hey day where victory were pulling big numbers and wanderers were selling out??? Add to this the dismal ratings and one has to ask ... what happened?

was it actually snow or sleet ?? I did not see the vision>>

any who more to answer your question..

Soccer crowds have been tumbling over the last few years.. once the honeymoon period was over
for the Bandwagon Wanderers ...

Victory still get solid crowds upwards on most occasions around the 20k mark.
not sure of there average...
you will find there low crowds are the Asian champions league games.
mostly played mid week against sides, no one has really heard of..

regards to the Wanderers... they never really ever sold out any games ???
only games they use to sell out were the Derby Games,
but this has changed big time over the past 3 years...

Take out the Victory and this League is on the edge of dieing..

ok (good crowd than)

I would say it was FFA or ACL >> All A league teams draw poor for these tournaments..

Victory are pretty good crowd puller overall.

Will be interesting to see how things go when the two new teams enter the comp.

The biggest thing holding the A League back is the quality of games. Being a football fan, there is a huge gap in between the A Leage and the EPL.

You watch a game between say Manchester City vs Liverpool... and the speed and accuracy of shots at goal and passing is phenominal.

This is what is holding the A League back. Things will improve when some of the popular clubs find form. Like Melbourne Victory or The Wanderers.
