The future of the Sydney Football Stadium project is in doubt, with the NSW Government seeking a new builder as the Moore Park site lies in ruins.
lol the development is not in doubt..

(did you just read the headline) ??

the only thing that is in doubt was LEND LEASE completing the job>>

NEW Construction company will be employed to finish the job.

(SFS will be on schedule )”

Just so we all know the agreed cost and schedule:
$730 mill. Demolition and construction.
2/2022 completion, although today I saw a couple of reports that it was expected that soccer and rugby would be played there in 2021.

“having a builder quit halfway through would be a crisis but sports minister John Sidoti confidently claims the project is still on track.
He says he will simply put the contract out to tender again and find a new, cheaper builder who can finish by 2021 when rugby league and soccer games are supposed to return.”
Yep. Fumblers and media hacks yelling at clouds again. Dills!!!!!!!

Chaos indeed with construction not yet even approved. What a fucking mess and waste of NSW hard earned taxpayer $$$.

The sudden end of the working relationship with Lendlease has caused some bafflement at the firm. The company is understood to have been in discussions with the government about how to keep the project within the budget.

It was aiming to meet a timeline of having the stadium operational by the NRL grand final in September 2022, though the government has indicated previously that it wants it open by early 2022.

Meeting a tight deadline would likely put pressure on the budget as it would require working at night and on weekends.

It is also understood that the owners of the stadium, the Sydney Cricket Ground Trust, were still pushing for a gold-plated new structure and there were also pressures from the architect, Cox Richardson.

The government is also still to receive planning approval for the new structure, which could also increase the costs, particularly if the Department of Planning puts conditions on the project such as limiting hours of work, environmental requirements or wants changes to limit noise and traffic.

Before the election, the government had only received approval for demolition. The exhibition period for stage 2 – the design and construction of the new stadium – has just finished and the proponent, Infrastructure NSW, must now assess the submissions. Approval is expected in the fourth quarter this year.

So far the government has spent $36.3m on the demolition, a spokesman for the minister for sport, John Sidoti, said. This leaves $693m for construction.

The knock-down and rebuild has been controversial because the stadium is just 30 years old and there were earlier costings that suggested it could be refurbished for as little as $85m.

Just checked.
50% larger than the biggest NRL crowd for the round and 3 times the game in Sydney at about the same time.

If the AFL is the "world least popular sport" where does that leave RL in this country?
they seem to never respond to that comment :-k
Anglofl Sydney FTA ratings this round; 20,000, 19,000, 31,000.
Gotta love how those ratings are ignored by the sponsoer and the dollars they spend on the afl compared to the nrlol :)))

You’d think with all the millions they spend they would know where to spend their money for their products to be seen

Hardly panic stations. Will just go to a new bidding process by construction companies and the best and most effecient bid will build the stadium.

Won't it be great having all the best stadiums in NSW being rectangular.

Hmm and AFL are losing ANZ permanently to Rectangle Football codes too.

Don’t the afl have two stadiums? And so should the best stadium be an nrl stadium given it’s the number 1 code in Sydney. Afl, as the second code has its two and that is plenty. Just need that drop in pitch at the SCG and all will be good.

Until further notice RL has lost SFS completely to a pile of dust. 8-[

How many builders do you think there is with the capacity to build a stadium within the increasingly tight deadline?
Other than lend lease I can think of only 2.

Is the year down of ANZ contingent on SFS being at a certain stage ?

Whatever happens I’m sure the NRL will cope one way or another. A few magic rounds maybe :)

There are thousands of construction companies able to do it both locally and internationally. There are large construction companies building major projects all over Australia.
Do you actually think all those cranes for major projects in Sydney and Melbourne are Lendlease?

I bet your an office worker thinking that.

Anyways at the end of the day Rugby Union, Soccer and Rugby League will have the best stadium venues in Sydney. :\:

AFL is not the second code in Sydney. Soccer has way more presence here than AFL and so does Union.

AFL is probably 4th when you look at player numbers and fields available for these sports.

There’d be a process re: designs, architecture, approvals etc that would have to be gone through. And there was a reason lend lease won the contract in the first place. I suspect they’d go back to the other tenders. The question will be, can they do it at the costs the government have demanded? Will it be the same quality? Will others say they too can’t do it for the cost the government want? I mean lend leAse have pulled out so there is a good business reason for that... it wasn’t profitable at the figures the government want.... the margins are very tight in such developments. So can others provide the same or similar and make a profit
