Oh and Storm are on top of the ladder, play in finals just about every season and go on to win premierships. Is there a bandwagon developing? Haha, as if... Average crowds of 13k in sports mad Melbourne. Any wonder why they lose more than $10 million a season? Any wonder why News Ltd is desperate to get out of the game. Absolute rabble and the locals in Melbourne cannot stand them. Don't take my word for it, just look at the abysmal home town support the Storm attract.
the Storm are going just fine ... they will end up well ahead of their 2010 KI's
weren't AFL gumbies predicting their end about April last year when the salary cap scandal broke
thats it they're gone ... they'll lose players & fans will stop coming

In a city that is not AFL heartland I would call 27,000 a rather good result.

Meanwhile in Melbourne we have much more than 170,000 going to games in it's heartland.

I refuse to make future predictions. Only fools engage in that sort of conduct.
easy to do when you have no confidence
I'd say the AFL is quietly petrified about their codes long term future in our nations largest city & privately concede their plans for domination have failed & all they can do now is struggle to exist there :wink:

Mr Onions if you could just stop swearing you would actually be quite entertaining!

Mr Raider may I remind you that many NRL supporters have predicted the demise of the Swans ever since they first arrived in Sydney. After some teething issues and one mistake that had them in serious financial trouble in the early 90's they have stood the test of time. They have not needed to call on AFL assistance beyond the norm since 1996 and have a very strong base. The junior base in Sydney is very good and all that remains is to keep those youngsters in the game. AFL NSWACT has been doing a tremendous job and the result has been a demand for a second outlet. GWS provides that outlet.

The future is impossible to predict. For instance in September there could be a fire out at Blacktown. There could be one at Parramatta. There could be a massive drugs controversy at Penrith that destroys the credibility of the club and the game in Sydney's West. I could go on with numerous examples that could change the entire story. No one can truly be confident that any of those things would not happen, and anyone who is can only be described as living in a fool's paradise.

And I quote from the article;
"The auditor has again confirmed today, not that they needed to, that is the [solvency] test and as far as they're concerned the club can meet all their financial obligations as and when they fall due," said Colless.

Alarmist reporting by The Daily Telegraph that has little basis in fact when it comes to running a business. The article went overboard on crowds despite two games up to that point affected by rain and the fact that corporate interest is up to the tune of $3 million. I'd like to see an NRL club garner that much in sponsorship in Sydney.

It does you no credit to ask rhetorical questions, Mr Pussycat. The reality is that the Swans are not in any kind of financial trouble.

My god, if they are going just fine now with 13k average crowds and zero interest for the general public in Victoria, I'd hate to see how they'd be going when they consistently struggle. Basketcase comes to mind. A $10 million annually black hole.
