1, yes, I think the swans pitched an unreasonable proposal.
2. Ratings? The only thing I think there is agreement on is that there is no agreement.
3. It seams to me that sometimes this forum plays the man and not the ball and this particular particular thread is unravelling.
4. I should not mix my metaphors
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.
Rugby league, Australias most popular game in some of North Eastern Australia.

In rugby league it’s important to play the man and the ball, thus it is a more challenging sport. :)

This is the fight club quolls, enjoy the banter and you’ll do just fine :)

Fumbler gets upset over the word southern .
Lol
The truth really upsets the southern hicks .
Afl is a southern game
Very Popular in the southern states .
Was made in a SOUTHERN state
NT is Not a State .its a territory with a small population .
WA is a big state .
Yet over 90 % of the population live in the SOUTHwest corner .
So AFL is the southern game .popular in VIC SA TAS WA ..SOUTH WEST corner
In the northern states where the majority of the population live in this country .
RL is king.
It's very simple ..yet apparently facts upset some .
Lol ..as usual
Okay. Let’s pick this apart.

Afl is the dominant sport in WA ... all of it.

Afl is the dominant sport in the NT ... whether it is a state or not is irrelevant .... it’s still the dominant sport in that northern part of the country .

Aussie Rules has clubs and teams right across the country ... as shown by the clubs listed. It is played in significant numbers in qld and nsw.

NSW is not completely rl. Australian Rules is the dominant sport in many parts, and on equal footing in others.

It may serve the insecurities of some nrl zealots to define AFL as only being a Southern sport as an attempt to minimise the position Australian Rules have in this country but the reality is it is played all over the country and is Australia’s biggest sporting organisation for a reason. The need to try and belittle and minimise Australian Rules shows just how insecure and defensive some nrl folk are. Thank god rl have soo
You guys are just fish in one single pond. But are non existing in the big ocean.

Where is the AFL team in New Zealand? Non existing
Where is the AFL team in England? Non existing
Where is the AFL team in France? Non existing
Where is the AFL team in PNG? Non existing
Where is the AFL team in Canada? Non existing
YET RUGBY LEAGUE HAS CLUBS IN ALL THESE COUNTRIES.

You guys are basically crowing about having a presence in just one country.
Have you actually really grown as a sport that much apart from a few extra teams in the same country??

Rugby League basically sold out Perth with state of Origin. A place where our sport doesn't even have a team so we know the potential there. A bigger crowd in Perth than EVERY SINGLE AFL game in NSW or Queensland this year.
Australia and New Zealand test matches sold out in Perth too. AFL is even talking about Origin now after seeing it's success in Perth.

The reality is AFL can only survive in Australia.
New Zealand exhibition AFL matches were cancelled due to such poor interest.
While exhibition matches in China are just a total embarrassment and nightmare for AFL.

Then you look at AFL in NSW and Qld. Is the sport really that strong when 95% of matches are shown on 7mate?
7mate a tv station which has an average audience of about 3.5%.

Wouldn't they alway show AFL on the main Ch7 like the NRL does on Ch9 if AFL was so popular in these states??

Rugby League seems to be doing alot better in Canada than AFL in China too lol..

Enjoy your delusions about your one single country game Fred

You are definetely right re: afl just being a major sport in one country. I have no problem with that at all. It simply doesn’t matter to me or many others I think.

I think afl as the competition has a long way to go in nsw and to a lesser extent qld. You are correct, if it were that popular it would be mainly on the main chsnnel. It is not. Australian Rules however is played in significant numbers across both states in both weekend comps and throughout schools and is growing in significant numbers . Both a junior and senior levels. The amount of players at the elite level is one measure of this. As too the amount of clubs and leagues. As you rightly pointed out in another thread, growth of wa rl participants up 16 percent... a great result and that is where you grow the game. Australian rules football is played at grassroots right across the country in significant numbers... and this is something the rl folk need to work on if they hoped to be a national sport I feel.

Has the NRL got to do better with Expansion and grassroots in Parts of Australia >>> YES

but i would rather Rugby League be played Internationally and have other teams outside of the country

than teams in Perth and Adelaide>>

But i think in Time>> Rugby league will have both.. so it is a win win

Yep. And that’s just a preference I guess which is fine. I can’t see rl having much more than teams placed in Adelaide as they have in Melbourne with minimal grassroots, I mean grassroots is Infintisimal in Victoria and less so on Adelaide. I think it has some organisation and growth in wa but not sure of numbers but I do hold out hope there for rl. I”m happy with Aussie Rules the way it is, it’s growing in non traditional areas in Australia and has a solid footprint nation wide. I think rl has done well to grow internationally but that certainly hasn’t helped ru in Australia. At the end of the day, as long as I can watch my footy it’s all good. I let alone care if my neighbour likes afl let alone some bloke in another country.

You certain Anglofl is growing outside the south? A decade on expansion clubs are without fanbases. Senile swans crowds down & still no TV audience after 38 years. Anglokick is nice but school kids also forced to play French cricket & that goes nowhere. SMH journo tasked with covering the game confirms any growth is a myth.

The number of clubs and leagues seem to suggest growth. Particularly in women’s participation. Also new comps in school and a move into private schools too. Would seem so.

Which new clubs have been established? Anglofl pay schools & council to put up posts doesn't mean more players.

Freddy 'ol boyo.....this seems to be your latest obsession. Fortunately we have the Lawson report that stated the fumbling league lies about 'participation' numbers.....and just about everything else. So please spare us the goldfish bowling with this idiocy pal.

There’s a brand new school comp in Sydney. That would be one example of growth wouldn’t it. Brand new school comp.

I’ll search some more as Masterchef is on :)

Between 2016 and 2018 there’s been a 33 per cent increase in the number of juniors playing in Western Sydney who come from a multicultural background.
