PNG has a population of 8.3mill
regards to AFL being popular in parts of Sydney or NSW over other sports.. No way in the world..
yes they have a following in the north shore of sydney and parts of the east..
But Union, League and Cricket are all stronger than AFL in these Areas.
(also with the Origin figure in Melbourne for the 250k that watched.
Yes Storm would like to achieve this figure>
Quite Frankly Storms figures have been quite $hit..
i like to see there Average when compared with Swans
but AFL only ever achieve any like this figure come G.F day.. in Sydney..
Rugby league are able to achieve this figure at least 4 times a year.

Rugby League is the most popular code in Sydney and has been for many decades.
The most popular NRL clubs are not in Sydney.
Australian Rules dominates west of the Barrassi line and that line is moving slowly but surely eastward, with some islands of popularity in previously rugby league territory and those islands will grow.
Rugby league is the national game of PNG and Australian Rules is the national game of Nauru. Australian Rules is growing in PNG with several PNG players in Queensland Leagues, in Nauru Rugby League isn’t.
Yes, New rugby league Stadiums are being built in Sydney, unless they reduce the capacity greatly they will rarely be filled, just as the ones they are replacing struggled.
And as for being a dominant code in several countries? New Guinea and a few island nations perhaps.
The below table has the attendance figures for the top rugby league competitions based on complete rounds closest to 29-30 June. I chose date this because the Attendance for the next AFL round (last weekend) was very good even with 3 of the normally low attracting games (GWS, Suns and Roos in tasty).
I may have been generous with Elite 1 got the totals from a few French regional sources, if any one has the exact figures for round16 please post
League———- Attendance
Super league 60842
NRL———— 95266
Championship 19991
Elite 1 France 6000
Total 182099
AFL 27888
And these figures are for the 4 top rugby leagues in the world.
Australian Rules is not a dominant sport world wide but neither is league, to argue otherwise is Not Really Logical.
BTW another great crowd tonight, put on a good game and they will come.
But true ... two countries where AFL is the biggest football code

Yes, you said it, but it's just not what I do.

Yes, I concede the cricket point.
Not sure about the status, hasn’t reached fever pitch yet.
I would expect the SCG to hold their ground.

you haven’t seen the figures for this year ? Despite concurrent games. And I would argue that their is more to biggest then just tv ratings. Finances, merchandise, grassroots, spread, crowds.... etc.

All irrelevant in this country mate. You'd best catch up - a cumulative ratings figure at the end of the year is the only important measurement.Fred wrote: Fri Jul 12, 2019 12:11 pmyou haven’t seen the figures for this year ? A sport should be measured by various measures,
as some sports are easier to play
better to watch live
perfect for Tv
and so on
Just like Economy's sports goes through fazes
