The AFL are advertising for a Head of China AFL for an office in Shanghai. Here is a part of their advertised job description:

So, they're setting up an office in China. With the stated aim of ummmm .....expansion lolololol!!!!! Sure sounds like they're trying to ummmmmm........expand into China to me pal!!!!
Not just trying to build interest.
Did you actually read that whole article?

-Secure and expand broadcast audience, primarily in China to grow the audience and commercial returns
-Develop and establish a commercial plan that delivers revenue objectives for the annual Shanghai game and also non game revenue
-Identify potential partners, build relationships and develop specific propositions to match their objectives
-Work with the Port Adelaide commercial team and China game project team to develop new assets to commercialise
-Lead the China relevant Australian government discussions across federal and state governments
-Lead the AFL discussions with the Central, Shanghai and Yangpu governments in China
Nothing about players or expanding the comp.
Using Bigger text to repeat yourself doesn't validate your point.
eporting to the General Manager China & India, Head of Audiences, Products & Innovation, this role will lead both the strategic and commercial efforts around the AFL’s expansion into China,
Here's a quote from AFL's general manager of China David Stevenson:
""There's tens of thousands of elite basketball players in China and we would love to expose them, and ideally one day, have a Chinese elite player playing our game,"
Here's another:
"The focus is on getting in to the youth though, with footy being taught in 21 Chinese schools."
Sure sounds like they're talking about expanding into China to get Chinese players into the AFL lololololollolololol!!!!

If getting into schools to show kids is considered expansion to you, how could it possibly be considered a failure already?Terry wrote: Thu Jul 11, 2019 4:31 pmOh dear!!!!! Nothing about players? Pal, the term 'expansion' was used by your dear leaders in press releases and job description adds about China.Cats_Steve wrote: Thu Jul 11, 2019 4:42 pmIf getting into schools to show kids is considered expansion to you, how could it possibly be considered a failure already?Terry wrote: Thu Jul 11, 2019 4:31 pmOh dear!!!!! Read the rest of the job description pal? I know it's difficult, but try putting it into context and see the relevance, not just what you want to see.

It's not what I want to see pal, it's what your dear leaders want to see. And it's clearly stated....expansion !!!!!!
That's what they want. They say it repeatedly. Take it up with them if you have a problem with them.

Re: AngloFL failed global expansion.. next destination
I think the AFL
would love to expand the footprint of the game>>
Player Talent from overseas playing in Australia>
Sponsors, International Tv viewing audience growing..
they want a Niche market>>
This is what they did in NZ >> with pretty much nothing in return.
(i will say the AFL are not going in all Guns blazing in the Expansion Idea)
I think they are trying to see what eventuates from the experience

Lol
This statement is beyond stupid .
It's outright fucking bizarre.
So by playing an AFL game in China suddenly the Chinese population living here who are exposed to AFL every week in the season will suddenly say
Hey I'm going to follow that sport ..even if I've never had any interest ...just because they played a game in China .
Whatever drugs this bloke is on he needs to get off them .
Let's apply this thinking to RL .
Let's say S.korea
The Nrl take a game over there ..mild if that interest .
Then some nrl bloke comes out & says the same rot .
He would be rightly ridiculed .
Tell me ..when the NFL bring a game over here do any Aussies living in The USA suddenly take an interest in NFL because a game was played in their native country ...even though it's right there in their face in the US.

Re: AngloFL failed global expansion.. next destination
I think it’s a little more complex then that and I would try and explain it in more easier terms but, not yo be rude or condescending, unless you have some business knowledge that is based around sociological understanding, particularly the Asian, and more specifically Chinese, markets you are probably not going to grasp this. In fact, I think it is a very wise thing to include in a job description, as those who apply will need to get this aspect in spades ... in fact I am sure that would form n integral party of the interview in what he or she understands of this task. The AFL are a very very big business and employ people and pay them big money to do put people in positions that know what they are doing. Needless to say, maybe best you don’t put an application in.

Here's a kiwi's take on why the AFL will never expand in New Zealand despite massive efforts and Gilty's boast that they'd eventually have a team in the top comp. I particularly like reason sux........the games a mess lolololol!!!!!!

the only way there will be a AFL team in NZ>> if 1000's & 1000's of Victorians immigrate to N.Z over a 15- 20 year period.

They like it significantly less than you lot do. Not sure even a 50 year period would help.leeroy*NRL* wrote: Fri Jul 12, 2019 11:25 amlol

It’s not like the AFL, has a code that it is a direct rip of from like union that dominate the sporting landscape already! then plonk a team there like league does and the warriors!leeroy*NRL* wrote: Fri Jul 12, 2019 11:25 amlol
