I think we are talking about Aussie Rules being referred to as a southern sport. It has been shown that it clearly is not and is a national sport played across the country in significant numbers.....just like soccer.

If you want to think that soccer in Australia is bigger than Aussie Rules ... or Rl for that matter ... then go ahead I guess if that floats your boat.
You should let people in the northern states know - viewing numbers suggest nobody up here cares about your provincial pastime.
Fantastic correlation there. =D
How are the soccer "viewing numbers" up there? [-(
And how are the soccer participation rates up there? [-X
A League TV numbers crap just like middle aged white swans. Socceroos can crush AngloFL tho. Matildas probably out did AngloFL in Sydney as well despite early morning spot.
Soccer participation numbers huge & unlike AngloFL genuine.

Did you not see the list of clubs that were posted. Quite a large number if no one cares. How do you explain all these clubs?
Post all soccer teams in Western Sydney for some idea.

I’m not saying soccer doesn’t have a presence ... gee in western Sydney I would imagine a huge presence ... but you argue Aussie Rules is only played by northern suburb folk. The list of clubs highlighted in western Sydney league for Aussie Rules clearly show this is not the case. So no, Aussie Rules is not merely a southern thing, it has people playing right across the country in significant numbers, as too does soccer. No one refers to soccer as being the domain of the southerner though.

Now my second point ... WA and NT ... not really southern now.

It’s an interesting scenario. I think you are right ... where would the swans play otherwise. Would they threaten to move to spotless ?? Doubt it. They’d certainly have a bumper crowd if they did. Maybe they’ll threaten to have smaller games there ?? But can’t see it. If the afl did have somewhere to go, they would be in prime position to force this as regardless of who or what generates more income, the swans revenue is still significsnt.
AngloFL played predominately in well healed areas of city by white private school kids. A move out west would result in crowds similar to plastic gws.

Hmmm these clubs in the western Sydney junior league must be busing these kids in. Add to that the senior clubs. And remember these are clubs which I presume have several age grades. That’s a few players just there filling those sides.

For south Australia I think there are 4 clubs . Yes 4 I think.

Victoria is a bit better and has grown a few clubs... I think from memory it is 13 or17 clubs for all of Victoria.

WA fairs a bit better I believe and I may look it up at sometime next when on the Dunny. You could ask crapper but think he only collates and files afl articles/facts.

Dorathy Dix there. There is a soccer competition in most of the above locations. Never mind church leagues, indoor soccer, office comps, social games, schools...

Lost the argument so on to the but buts sokka

Isn’t there a stat somewhere where sokka has a huge participation up to the ages 15/16 then it falls away!

Any ways sokka must have a huge following as the aye league is next to dead and the Sokkawhoos are next to irrelevant as the league nation side Kangawhoos

Fumbler gets upset over the word southern .
Lol
The truth really upsets the southern hicks .
Afl is a southern game
Very Popular in the southern states .
Was made in a SOUTHERN state
NT is Not a State .its a territory with a small population .
WA is a big state .
Yet over 90 % of the population live in the SOUTHwest corner .
So AFL is the southern game .popular in VIC SA TAS WA ..SOUTH WEST corner
In the northern states where the majority of the population live in this country .
RL is king.
It's very simple ..yet apparently facts upset some .
Lol ..as usual

So true. Socceroos at World Cup like SOS gains a national audience. TV ratings don't lie - AngloFL a southern thing only.

You keep supporting my point when you state soccer is national due to the level of participation in such areas.... with Aussie Rules played in such numbers across the country the same applies. And what has soccer being played in the above locations got to do with Aussie Rules and it not being confined to southern states or a mainly southern sport.

So soccer being played across the country makes it national but Aussie Rules doesn’t. Afl doesn’t have a national team so straw man argument .

Southerners, they just think their shit don’t stink really. I mean how about those fukk sticks coming in trying to tell the scg to take out the cricket pitch?

Lordy Lordy Lordy, I mean, the ignorance and arrogance is astounding. It’s why we must all laugh at the afls ginormous repetitive failure syndrome.

Gws —- 8 years in, a fake money made team full of southerners, and hundreds of millions of dollars have done diddly squat for crowd numbers and local west Sydney engagement in afl  the ignorance and arrogance

China - ? the ignorance and the arrogance

aflx - circus freaks? The ignorance and the arrogance

We must also laugh when their ignorant arrogant bid to remove the scg’s hallowed cricket pitch fail.

Where are you getting the research from
As one test and some shorter formats of the game don’t make that much money
when you take into account
1 test match = 5 days
handful of ODI and T20's
plus BIG BASH>

than corporates and members which is expensive for a day at the cricket.

Cricket is the prime money maker for the SCG Trust.

11 AFL games just do not cut the $$
Citation for that? Number of event days is pretty much the same for the AFL and Cricket. Annual Reports dont specifiy who pays what.
forgot to post article but what Terry said x2 It was the CEO of SCG Trust,

I find Cricket as boring as AFL. But saying that, AFL can't expect to tell another code what to do on a shared venue in their off season.

Would be like Melbourne Victory telling the AFL to play on a rectangular version of the mcg because they are using the venue the next day.

I heard them talking about this the other day and someone said if the SCG & Cricket Australia said to the Swans no.
What exactly can the AFL do?
Is not like there is an abundance of other large scale round venues they can use instead in Sydney.
Homebush ANZ is going rectangular soon so that is not an option.

The Swans have no choice whatever the decision.
No! It would be nothing like the victory telling the afl tonise a rectangle field

The swans did threaten to leave for anz several years ago when negotiations for a new playing contract stalled due to swans wanting a better deal!

The scg wouldn’t boot the swans away due to need a winter tenant and easily being the most valuable football team in Sydney!

The swans along with some other afl clubs in other states wouldn’t have another venue to play at due to simply being to big a game for suburban shit shacks! Something the nrl and its minnow little teams struggle to come close to filling
Suburban shit shacks, is'nt that where AFL plays their exhibition matches in China?  =D =D

haha, no wonder AFL can't grow out of one country :(/

The biggest stadium and the newest 3 stadiums in NSW will all be rectangular and AFL free.

hmm AFL looking pretty irrelevant when you have the older smaller stadiums.
