Yay for Canada, USAs little neighbor. They are so influenced by the states they may as well be another state. Still hasnt made its way to another continent
Well New Zealand is part of the Oceania like Australia.
But no luck for AFL trying to get the Kiwis to play there game lol..
Like I said before, AFL is a lemon that no other nation takes seriously.

getting countries to adopt new sports is darn near impossible when they already have a strong culture of an existing sport, as shown by the lack of expansion of gridiron

Since when has Canada or PNG had strong Rugby Union cultures?
And countries where Rugby Union is popular. Rugby Union has tried to block efforts for Rugby League to grow. Look at Rugby League in South Africa. Union have blocked every effort for our sport to grow there.
If Rugby Union wasn't around. Rugby League would actually be more popular.
League would probably be one of the biggest sports in the world if Rugby Union wasn't around. So the argument that League rides off the popularity of Union simply isn't true.

league is only popular in NZ thank to union! a game that is a religion over there!
and given the 4 or so games played in NZ from the AFL it was hardly with the aim to take over!
Everyone knows AFL want some else to like their game.

neither is league!
union is such a popular sport in the UK and Europe and despite several hundred years of exposure and despite being a direct rip off from the more popular big brother its still a relatively amateur and not taken serious as well

The AFL might from a business perspective, it would be re is not to, but AFL fans ... havenβt heard too many, if any, state they care. This cultural cringe that nrl supporters on here at least seem to have is strange. I thought those days had gone when we, as Australians, measured ourselves by what other countries do or like... I like to think we celebrate our uniqueness and that we make our own path ... and often lead the world when doing so.
There are millions of people who love Australian Rules and more who like it ... same with rugby league ... whether the thing they enjoy is liked by others in no way impinges their enjoyment. It simply doesnβt matter. Whether 1000 people like or whether it is played around the world ... to the person in stand or watching on t v ...he or she doesnβt care. Just sitting back, maybe having a beer, and enjoying the game ..regardless of what other households are doing or whether some country a thousand miles away approved of the game.
Oh dear

they are both rugby, same size field and goal posts, both have tried to score then shots at goal, league even as scrum like union that it next to totally pointless
even more funny where union is popular in the world league has some following as well!
but apparently they are nothing alike according to the league fertility
maybe your off your meds and in denial about league being a simplified rip off of union!
Oh dear . Same insane rant on an endless loop
Two different games
Have been for over a century .

Rugby League developed in England, and Australian Rules developed in isolation, a long long way from the motherland, there is no surprise that League is more popular than Australian Rules there.
There were a couple of very influential personalities involved in establishing Union and its later baby in NSW, but it was a line ball in the early days
The average attendance figures for the three top world rugby league organisations do not demonstrate that rugby league is a dominant sport in the two countries where it has been argued to be, well, very popular.
If you delete the average figures of the expansion clubs, which are not located in traditional areas, rugby league does not appear to be all that popular in the areas long considered to be strongholds. It is true that England has not embraced Australian rules but they donβt really seem to have embraced League either.
Soccer is by far the dominant sport in England and pretty much the rest of Europe.
