Re: GWS / SUNS >> How much more dollars
Yeah I live in Brisbane
Since they have been losing for so long its the support is pretty bad.
But in the winning days of 01-04 the support was not too bad. they averaged about 33,000 at the Gabba in 2004 when they were going for 4 premierships in a row
The Lions will never be as popular as the Broncos but if they can start winning again they will a little bit of support

Re: GWS / SUNS >> How much more dollars
Keep the Sun's !
If the Sun's play well a win a few games then locals will return and bolster attendance figures in a huge way. The interstate fans that fly in are fantastic for the local tourism trade, if the Sun's win then more tourism dollars for the coast.
TV ratings are very poor and will only improve when a team starts to string a few wins.
The huge start up costs $100 million are a one off, extra yearly ongoing financial
subsidies to stay afloat are also dispensed to many Melbourne clubs. In terms of $ millions of dollars the difference is not too much more.
The Suns are a better investment than proping up some surplus dead wood Melbourne clubs because only the Sun's and Brisbane Bears ( sorry cannot beat that name) can win over the important regional and city TV markets in Qld.
If both clubs can be competitive for a reasonable length of time TV ratings will improve to a semi respectable level.
With a growing Qld population it it essential that Sun's and Lions succeed and take a large part of that pie.
Why the AFL administration are so catatonic and indifferent towards these Q clubs I am at a loss to explain.

Re: GWS / SUNS >> How much more dollars
I will just add that it is an utter disgrace that top clubs like Richmond and Hawthorn are able to strip the struggling Sun's of many top players.
A shameful grubby low act from the Tigers, despicable !

QLD is becoming a huge market
Queensland's population hits 5 million people "MAY of 2018"
Surprised AFL has not splurged more money into the STATE>
I am even more shocked that the NRL have not taken advantage of the HUGE GROWTH in QLD.

Gold Coast Suns set to be handed more money as league looks to fix ailing club
he AFL is on the cusp of handing the Gold Coast Suns more money.
Caroline Wilson told Sportsday the AFL Commission has approved an extra $850,000 to help fix development pathways at the ailing expansion club.
“They have access to everyone north of Rockhampton but they need to put a lot more money into northern Queensland,” she said.
“Up to half of that $850,000 is going to be injected into the academy and into player development.
“The AFL is doing something about the Gold Coast Suns.”

Another 850 thou to prop up player development shit eh. I wish I was at the meetings between afl exec and gws and Thuns ceos and execs ...
Gws exec: so ahh well the thing is, ... well the thing is, you see, the thing, well, look nobody here in western Sydney really likes us so ahhh we got together and we’re thinking if you guys gave us a spare mill or two we could spend it to try and make people like us and come to games...”

You see ahhh ummmm ahhh well hmmm it’s like, it’s kinda like, well look we don’t got any players who can kick more than 35 metres in this city, so we made this plan that if you were to like give us a spare mill we could spend it on teaching some kids how to kick a sherrin and see if that works...
Gil: “Jesus Christ you fukkers want ANOTHER spare mill? Listen ol custard guts vlad didn’t bring you guys into the league 8 friggin years ago to be a bunch of begging for handouts jokes of the league today! I mean what tha fukk have yous done with the hundreds of millions we’ve already dished out!!

Gil:
Jenny: “there’s a French au pair who needs a visa, can you give spud Dutton a call and pull some visa strings?”
Gil: “thanks Jenny, alright you losers this meeting is closed, I got more important things to take care of.

ACT government open to GWS Giants bringing more AFL games to Manuka
The ACT government is open to the GWS Giants increasing the number of games they play at Canberra's Manuka Oval - provided they can both agree on the money.
Going into their eighth season, the Giants are keen to have a new deal finalised this year.
Along with their agreement to play three home-and-away games at Manuka, the Giants are also locked into playing seven games at the Sydney Showgrounds.
Given they play 11 home games per season, that means the Giants have one game that's not locked into any stadium deal.
It gives GWS scope to move that game to Manuka.
Their current deal with the Giants costs the government about $2.3 million per season, with games now regularly sold out.

Re: GWS / SUNS >> How much more dollars
what strikes me pink.
is that the ACT Government pay almost double to the AFL than Rugby League per year.
with 12 games to 3
i think Raiders Get 150k per game.
where as AFL are getting
600k per game with 1 trial match..
Crazy stats... who is behind this deal
