He played RL in under 8's and 10's while his father played for Newcastle NBL team. He then moved to Melbourne and Ben played Aussie rules. He still follows Essendon in Aussie rules. He's been quoted as saying that Aussie Rules helped develop him as an NBA star. He brought an aussie rules football out at NBA training to show the US players how to use it.

Yet you think his stint in RL under the age of 10 was the reason.....

After trying to get away with telling half the story your now trying to make out he became a elite athlete after he turned 10 and moved to Melbourne you have serious problems.

no one becomes an elite athlete after playing 3 seasons of any sport by 10 years of age! FFS he hadnt even gone through puberty!

Are you talking about the skill of tackling? A skill many an AFL player struggles with ?? You know, the skill AFL clubs often pay rugby league ex players and coaches to teach em how to do??

There is no skill in tackling someone running straight at you. Do u have to be tough & strong yes but to call it skillfull is a bit silly don't you reckon Kingy me boy!

Clearly you've never learnt how to tackle Pete! and it's no wonder the AFL lads need coaching! Come to think of it tackling was never anything that was drilled or taught during my years playing marngrook. Strange that as it's a major part of the game, quite dumb not to drill it.

Anyway Pete there's many different techniques to the skill of tackling. Shoulder and head positioning are vital for your own safety and for effective tackling. Timing is also a major part of the skill.

What started as a back-up plan to an NRL contract with South Sydney this season has resulted in former Rabbitohs under 20s prop Jordan Mailata being selected in the NFL draft by Super Bowl champions Philadelphia Eagles.

Mailata, who is 200cm and weighs 160kg, was chosen by the Eagles as the 233rd overall pick in the seventh round of the NFL draft at the Dallas Cowboys' AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Sunday.

Despite never having played American football, Mailata's size and athleticism impressed Philadelphia offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland, and his rugby league background has generated interest in NFL circles following Jarryd Hayne's stint with San Francisco 49ers.
