Oh and talk about bogan behaviour. Throwing bottles etc seems the norm in NZ at Rugby League games.

Beaussie may I suggest you conduct your research in a less hasty manner than TLPG conducts his moderating??

This is simply a mexican wave with people throwing rubbish. I've seen it at the cricket and at Sydney swans games several times before.

The Collingwood supporters horrific behaviour I have not seen anywhere in all of my sporting adventures. As I said, it belongs in caveman times and the AFL needs to do something about it.

I'll say it once again, the NRL has accepted and dealt quite comprehensively with the problems it had 6+years ago with its fans. I've seen little since and think the AFL should follow suit. Simply kicking fans out for fighting is what the NRL also has always done but I think it was a good step to take further action. The AFL should follow suit and start with that bunch of Collingwood supporters! And Beaussie and TLPG should also accept there's a problem.

as I didn't see any females getting bashed up by males

Hmm, Rugby League can no doubt take the moral high ground when one takes the following into account.

Rugby league, with its macho advertising and scantily dressed cheerleaders, has long cultivated an image of masculine bravado. But a picture is also surfacing of a murkier code in which players share women for sex as part of the team "bonding" process.

There are stories of prostitutes being hired for group sex, and "bonus" points being given if women are shared among mates. The practice is known as "roasting", a reference to meat being stuffed.

"The sharing of women is a bit pervasive and has developed over time," says sports psychologist Jeff Bond. "The culture that surrounds some clubs is wrong, it provides a platform for sex and violence. Clubs protect players. It is treated as 'boys being boys' and there is a cone of protection and silence.

The head of psychology at the University of Canberra, Professor Bob Montgomery, said the promotion of masculine values such as toughness, aggression and competitiveness in the league had a direct correlation in promoting "side-effects" such as risky behaviour, an inability to deal with emotions, less intimate relationships and a belief that male-female relationships were adversarial.

"The risk is, without anybody intending it, that the organisation promotes a culture associated with the attitude that women are something to be used," he said.

One player said it was a typical night for some of the Canterbury players.

"Some of the boys love a 'bun'," said one. "Gang banging is nothing new for our club or the rugby league."

No I dont buy it. It has not a skerrick of evidence of bulldogs supporters anywhere in the footage. I dont care what title has been given or what imbociles have posted comments. I especially think it is outrageous to suggest that the 'location' of a burning car might imply bulldogs supporters did it. Ridiculous Beaussie, I thought better of you

Hey fair go. I just responded to Raider's post by pointing out that Rugby League can hardly take the high moral ground when it comes to the treatment of women. I simply posted an article that was printed in The Age and left it at that.

Ok Beaussie fair enough with the post. I accept I somewhat misread your argument. My apologies it normally wouldnt happen I am just currently negatively affected by TLPG's disgraceful moderating of late. As are several of our other members.

That said can you please accept there is obviously a problem with a large number of AFL bogan supporters? You've actually been targetted before, I think on several ocassions and although you sometimes stir the pot, you never deserve to be attacked physically at AFL matches for supporting your team. I hope it never happens to you again out there in those AFL crowds as you're a lovely chap.

Beaussie? I'm awaiting your response. And TLPG, do you accept the Collingwood bogans behaviour to be a problem? And although you dont go to many AFL matches anymore, have you ever been attacked at an AFL game?

Never. I do consider the fans at Collingwood to be behaving poorly - but equally I believe that what the Canterbury fans did was way worse.

Hmmm but we have to realise that the Canterbury fans were dealt with firmly by the NRL. As far as I'm aware the AFL has done nothing to curb the violence in its bogan supporters. This is the issue here and we need to join forces and fight for a better crowd culture in the AFL, crowds where people like Beaussie dont cop a belting for flying his flag, crowds where women arent at risk of having their hair ripped out, crowds where violence is not condoned in any form, like in the NRL

Its a complex problem but I think making the sport less attractive to Aussie bogans by perhaps trying to build a more multicultural profile in the AFL. I think as Beaussie states GWS might be an area where this could occur and I really hope it does.

I'll post up a petition on the AFL board for members to provide advice on wording etc when I get the time. TLPG, I hope that because this is all for the betterment of the sport you love that you will contribute to and sign my petition.
