X' marks the spot for Asian expansion
AFL PEOPLE CONSTANTLY SAY THE AFL DO NOT CARE ABOUT EXPANSION>>
though i beg to differ..
seems they have thrown the white flag in N.Z and looked to ASIA>
coming from the AFL Website itself>>
THE LEAGUE will use its new high-octane format, AFLX, to make a significant push into China and India in the future.
The AFL hasn't yet set a timeline for when it might attempt to introduce AFLX into the Asian market, but it is keen to get participation programs up and running in those regions.
Chinese broadcaster Guangzhou TV also aired regular AFL games during the 2017 home and away season, as well as last year's Grand Final.
Port Adelaide, in conjunction with the AFL, has also set up football programs at 15 schools in Shanghai.
India on the other hand is relatively untapped by the AFL, despite having the world's fastest growing economy.

Re: X' marks the spot for Asian expansion

Oh boy

But seriously, Does anyone know if the afls international expansion team know any mandarin? I think it'd be beneficial for em to learn a bit at least. I'd suggest they learn phrases like the following just so they know where the people stand at the negotiation tables
Zhèxiē báichī zài zhèlǐ gànshénme? --- What the fuck are these white boys doing here?
Tā mā de shì shénme qíguài de kàn yóuxì? --- What the fuck is that weird looking game?
Zhǐshì diǎntóu, shuō shì de, ránhòu wǒmen ná zǒu tāmen de qián --- Just nod and say yes, then we take their money

I'd say food allowance would be a better idea . Seeing as a large chunk of the crowd at the last Chinese game spent their time out the back eating .
So the players could mingle with the hungry hoards

Re: X' marks the spot for Asian expansion
Hmm what exactly is high octane about a sport where it's players drop the ball constantly and look like fucking idiots.

Somehow AFL fans still say they don't resent not being able to go international, yet they keep trying to introduce their joke of a game to other nations.

it's 10 times more hi octane than a sport that is based on walking, with 90% tackling and 9% throwingNRL&NFLweLaughATafl wrote: Fri Jan 26, 2018 9:14 pmHmm what exactly is hi octane about a sport where it's players drop the ball constantly and look like fucking idiots.![]()

Re: X' marks the spot for Asian expansion
Will there be more or less substitutes in this? Asking someone to run flat out for 10m is downright cruel.

Re: X' marks the spot for Asian expansion
It's perhaps appropriate league chiefs have branded their latest baby AFLX, for X could mark the moment when they have a product to take internationally. That will become clearer – to a degree – when the first exhibition series is held from February 15-17.
This trial comes at a time when the AFL, along with Port Adelaide and Gold Coast, is seeking to bed down a move into China, with the two clubs to meet for a second year in Shanghai in round nine.
Stevenson said the two projects were tracking well, with AFLX potentially providing "endless" possibilities. The ultimate success would be a product that could be sold internationally, particularly in the mass markets of China and India, but that remains a long-term ambition.
Club officials point to previous overseas plans which either failed or didn't get the traction league chiefs had wanted. South Africa and New Zealand spring to mind. But in AFLX, this may, and there is a heavy stress on may, be the format that can open a door in non-traditional markets.

Re: X' marks the spot for Asian expansion

This shit is so funny. I also loved the optimism with "endless possibilities"
With the article finishing with the fantastic contrast, going from optimism to pessimism, from pride to utter shamejob

"But in AFLX, this may, and there is a heavy stress on may, be the format that can open a door in non-traditional markets."
The insular AFL has long sought solace or, better put, the holy grail in the Asian market. And they've failed miserably, time after time, year after year. Aflx will be no different. It's terribly funny. But, it's also sad. The AFL could be spending this money on supporting Aborigjnal players from remote communities and reducing the widespread institutional racism the organisation is plagued with.
I mean, they've called this aflx "high octane"
