Yeah that was a shock indeed. Doesnt boad well. Suns have collingwood hawks essendon and carlton this year at home and adelaide which also draws a big crowd.

Let's put that in context when we are talking about home town support/popularity

If the Titans get 15 k to a game
Then IMO 90% are Titans fans ....except when playing Bris

If the Thuns play one of the big AFL teams the the crowd would be 60/40 .65/35
AFL fans travel ...notorious for it .
So out of a 15 K crowd how many are actually Thuns fans

True. Although i would question titans games re percent. When playing warriors it would seem mainly moari supporters. And there is a club from sydney that the gc trip is a yearly thing for fans i kbow as there was an article a year or two back calling for titans fans to come to the game to outnumber these fans. Also, many people follow nrl on gc but not necessarily titans... same as suns re AFL. So you are still getting the same affect of people going to see their team play the titans. The thing it appears anyway, is that those who follow AFL up here who have another team do follow the suns with some passion. A lot of them go to more than just one game. Myself included as it is a good day out just down the road. I can certainly tell you that i see more suns merchandise than titans. Example... running training at main beach bloke walks past with suns cap on. Surfing at currumbin andcthe nippers are finishing up and i see 3 or 4 kids ..one wth a suns hat on, swapping suns footy cards. Dont get me wrong, nrl is the number 1 sport but maybe the AFL and suns are marketing better as i do see a lot of bumper stickers, merchandise etc. My mother who is a dyed in the wool pies supporter is even getting a suns membership next year lol.

So yes, there are a lot of opposition supporters at a suns game but there are also a lot of neutral supporters who, if there team is not playing, are going for the suns. And there are a llso suns supporters. Its the kids coming through that look promising.

It tell you what though. Union is really struggling. I think the titans and suns will do okay and rl and AFL have a good solid junior and senior comp. Union is no longer in some schools and the some union teams have to play in the brisbane comp.

AFL season 2016: AFL tips in an extra $2 million for Gold Coast Suns


The AFL was forced to pour in more than $2 million in additional funding for the Gold Coast Suns in 2015 to cover a bigger than expected financial loss.

Documents lodged this week with the corporate regulator revealed the Suns made a $300,000 loss last year, compared to a $1 million profit in 2014.



However, the Suns annual report showed the AFL contributing $18.6 million in grant funding in 2014, up $2 million from the previous financial year. It also showed that the club borrowed $1.59 million from National Australia Bank in 2015, on a two-year term with a maturity date of June 30, 2017.

The Suns, who many pundits tipped to make the finals last year, slumped to 16th position in the club's first year under new coach Rodney Eade.

The financial report also revealed a $1 million fall in membership and ticket income to about $6.6 million, falling merchandise sales and a $2 million increase in employee expenses to about $22 million.
