NO FLICK PASS FOR SBS
Despite the successful Sydney visit of English glamour clubs Chelsea and Tottenham, football boss David Gallop looks like he will struggle to ink a new TV deal for the A-League. SBS is trying to convince Nine, Seven or Ten to take over the last two seasons of its $7 million a year deal to broadcast the Friday night match. The skinny is this: Seven will not bid; Nine’s David Gyngell wants to take a Saturday night game, which Fox Sports’ Patrick Delany will not agree to; and Ten’s Hamish McLennan is unlikely to invest in a Big Bash-style makeover for the A-League with the risk of losing the rights in two years. Back to you, SBS.

SBS keen to get out of its current deal and the other networks not so keen on picking up where SBS departs, esp. Friday night broadcasts. Where to now for David Gallop and the FFA?

The future looks bright for A League Football. Channel 10 have indicated interest in broadcasting a Saturday or possibly even Friday night spot. With Optus now priming to compete against Foxtel it seems broadcasting interests have finally realized the huge potential of the sport is coming to fruition.

If it is indeed true that Channel 10 are interested, do you think we will see A-League games on their primary channel prime time?Road Runner wrote:The future looks bright for A League Football.
