All fair points, but what you've given is reasons why they failed, they still failed, and getting bigger home crowds than many Sydney teams isn't any great achievement GWS can do that.leeroy*NRL* wrote:the reason I myself haven't really worried about a few thousand drop in crowd numbersThe axe wrote:That's all good and well, but they just lost a third of their customers in 1 weekend, and whos paying for said team? the nrl is already spending millions year on year keeping heartland clubs like the Titans alive, on top of the fact Perth has already failed once.leeroy*NRL* wrote:The axe wrote:Of biggest concern to the nrl would be the massive drop off in attendance in Perth, have we not all been sold the narrative that WA was an emerging hotbed of Rugby League?
not really, seeing that they can almost fill a stadium 3 times a year when a rugby league game is played there over the last 4 years.
when it is not even featuring a Perth team (I recan the NRL needs to bite the bullet and put a team there)
over the last few years I think it has been
Souths v Warriors multiple games
few manly games and Bronx
Gold Coast probably had not much appeal.
all this when a Perth Team is not even playing..
I will slightly correct you on the Perth team failed part.
The Crowds were good in the range over 13k
they also played at the WACA ground which is not ideal for rectangle codes.
They were taken out of the competition when the ARL and the super league went to court.
In 1997 the Reds became one of eight ARL teams to join the rival Super League during the dispute known as the Super League war. They changed their name to the Perth Reds for the 1997 Super League season,
they entered into the Australian Rugby League competition in 1995 before defecting to the rival Super League competition in 1997, where they rebranded themselves as the Perth Reds. However, by the end of the year the Reds had become a casualty of the Super League War peace deal and were shut down.
Their first game, played at the WACA, was watched by a record 24,392, with the Reds defeating St George 28–16. When News Limited began its "blitzkrieg" in April 1995, the Reds aligned themselves with Super League along with nine other Australian Rugby League clubs. That season the Reds were the best performing of the three expansion teams introduced, winning 11 of their 22 games, including 8 at home, which drew an average crowd of around 13,000, larger than that of many Sydney teams.

i doubt they would have survived one of the main financial back bones of the NRLOL clubs are pokes, because their revenue streams are shite in nearly every other department. poker machine laws are different over in WA so their would be no such thing as one of their poker machine mini casino leagues club.
the minnowbourne storm once got 30k to a home game! but average 12 or 13k at home, and are next to irrelevant, a WA NRLOL team would be nothing more
no media coverageleeroy*NRL* wrote:Melbourne storm without news media since 2012 and without pokies have survived.leagueiscrap wrote:lol SL warsleeroy*NRL* wrote:that is all I got to offer, They could of been a success but this was prevented due to the

news corp whored them out more than Eddie does collingwood in all their news publications!
the storm have been a financial sinkhole ever since they first existed, they were owned by news ltd who pumped millions in to them.
https://www.crikey.com.au/2010/03/31/tr ... rne-storm/
there was an article that stated that the new storm owners are expecting to face 5 years of losses before they break even, but the link is broken! the storm have recently brought a poke venue.
just because a few NRLOLK games attract 20k plus crowds doesnt mean they need to automatically put a team there & it will be a success!
for the few games did attract 20k crowds how many games havent? wasnt there a game played in WA earlier this season that only attracted around 12k

I would like to see this link, on Melbourne storm buying into pokies etc
news to me.
Melbourne storm there finances have not been the best, and they are still here.
the crowd avg are doing fine with rugby averages.
there is plenty of room to get better.
I think the only time Melbourne storm got more than 2 pages in the Melbourne papers
was when the salary cap bonanza was exposed.
yes perth have played a few games every year over the last couple years
having crowds around the 20k mark and some lower
the recent one was 14k
but do remember this is to a non W.A teams.
perth rugby the force play in front of crowds of around 10k
and that is a perth team.. there is plenty of gain to be made.
depends on what the NRL wants to do.. Make a quick few hundred million by putting another QLD side in
or making a team in Perth.
you have no idea about anything spazza!AFLcrap1 wrote:Lol insane rant after insane rant .

They got very little coverage in VIC
Just a quick question dumbo .
You were asked plenty of times but couldn't answer . Seeing as you are ranting poke poke poke again ...did you ever find the MELB STORM LEAGUES CLUB ...you know the one you ranted about poke poke poke .
I mean everybody laughed at you ....so why didn't you show them that it really existed .
& once again you deflect back to pokes yet ignore as you have done multiple times in the past ....that many AFL clubs are very reliant on poker machine revenue
they still get a good run in the Sun, but admititaly not as much when the storm were owned by news corp.Fred wrote:No they got good coverage in the herald sun, not as much as AFL naturally but they did get a decent run... Much more so than in the age. When you consider storms coverage to other minor sports in victoria it was quite good in the sun.
