So who sold the supporters down the pisser for the extra $$$

Fox Addons
NRL got rid of Monday night Football
Got NRL channel
Got SOO played over 6 weeks instead of the 9 and also got 1 SOO Sunday game.
Shortened the season by 1 week
Got Simulcasting
Got 2 commentary Teams covering the FTA games unlike the AFL that has just the 1.

FTA addons
From 1 Live game to 3 Live games.

NZ Sky addons
1 Warriors game Replay per week on FTA NZ tv.

What did the AFL get....................nothing, they sold you fumblers down the toilet and took away 10 FTA games starting next year and also gave you Thursday night football.

This will push you even further behind the NRL on Aggregate Tv ratings.

Well done Gill you done a sterling job.. =D> =D>
Oh no! How will we ever cope with our greater TV rights?? :(/ :(/

Who gives a fuck about some meaningless 'aggregate TV ratings'? The figure is completely meaningless. The networks care about how many people are watching for how long, The AFL goes for 50% longer meaning 6 hours of our games count as 2 games viewed while yours counts as 3. This shows how meaningless it is.
I recan the NRL did real well in this rights getting more on the plate besides the Money..

X MAN you do realize the AFL only get approx. 24million extra a year ??
and don't say we have more rounds blah blah
the teams have the 2 byes etc etc (works out to be around the 206 games per code

Only 24mill a Year more (with 2 extra teams)

Notice a trend in TV rights.....

2006 tv rights
AFL 156m per year over 5 years, 4 Live games on FTA
NRL 83m per year over 6 years, 1 Live game + 2 delayed with one starting at 930pm and the Sunday game on 2 hour delay.

Diff = 73million to the AFL per year

2013 tv rights
AFL 250m Per year Gained FOXFOOTY Added 2 bottomless pits(GWS,GCS) to gain that amount
NRL 220m Per year

Diff = 30million per year to the AFL

2017 tv rights
AFL 414m (gave away 11 FTA games to Fox and 1 extra year on the TV contract to get that amount)
NRL 390m (Gained 2 live games FTA and all 8 games simulcast, shortened SOO period, Sunday SOO, Monday Fox gone, Got 2 commentary Teams for Simulcasts games, NRL Channel, Shortened Season by 1 week, No more 5 day Turnarounds, Control of the draw, 1 Warriors game Replay per week on FTA TV in NZ.)

Diff 24m per year to the AFL

Now we are yet to see if the NRL deal includes Contra, if it does not then you will start crying in your sleep..

So the NRL seems to be closing the gap contract after contract and gaining better coverage on its way.

While the AFL Screws over its fans and signs a 6 year deal but still manages to be reeled in by the NRL.

Yeah, thats nice. Make all the future predictions you want, we've heard them every single time the rights are up. We still have a better deal as far as national coverage, and we still get more money.

Even if we ended up with less cash for TV in 6 years time we are still miles ahead in non TV revenue anyway. Either way you come second

Geez Xman you're usually making excuses that the AFL's national coverage is the reason the NRL gets bigger aggregate and average ratings. Now your saying they have a better deal as far as national coverage. Is your main job a contortionist in the circus?

Its definitely a good trend - as each year goes by since the commission was formed
it just gets better and better year on year.

Its 3 games with eacg match rating around the same as on of your entire rounds. In fact there was even talk of them selling the SOO rights seperatly

100% of the Audience can watch FTA matches . 3 or 4 PTV matches get similar rating to 1 FTA match.
AFL FTA matches
Melbourne : 88m
Adelaide: 92m
Perth : 93m

About : 90m

NRL FTA matches
Sydney : 72m
Brisbane : 72m
Representative : 5 or 6 games

about 78m

So who has the most matches?

the AFL have 1 more FTA match however its shown in the worst ratings time and delayed into Melbourne. It therefore rates nowhere near the other FTA games. The NRL more than make up for it with their 5 exculsive fox games to our 2 available games which are split into 4 halves

Try 1 usually 2 extra Fox games - 6 occasionaly 7 .Capable of being seen by just 30% of the audience. Only about 10% of that 30% would watch more than 6 games and only about 5% would watch more.

Put it another way, You've got wall to wall coverage of your matches from 1.30 till ten at night on Saturday . While Sunday 1.30-6.30. More AFL on TV but less Rating!!!!

But But But But But

worst Friday night game of the year for us. 3 times premiers vs last with 12 players banned. A huge blowout of over 120 points. Yet it still outrated the NRL for metros :(/

Look at those NRL figures for Melbourne! Thank god youve got SOO to increase interest in RL. Seems to be working a treat

thats the point, our games go for longer. If I watch from 1.30pm to 10.30pm today I am counted as watching only 3 games. RL fans could watch 1 less hour yet be counted as watching 1 more game

ratings figures alone just dont tell the entire story

See what happens when you don't schedule your best games on Friday nights fumblers.

Rubbish ratings.

Tigers and Rabbits both out of the 8 and still manages to beat the fumbler game with the current champions on show.

But every time the NRL schedule teams low on the table that don't rate fumblers go into meltdown and say NRL is dead...
