Of biggest concern to the nrl would be the massive drop off in attendance in Perth, have we not all been sold the narrative that WA was an emerging hotbed of Rugby League?

not really, seeing that they can almost fill a stadium 3 times a year when a rugby league game is played there over the last 4 years.

when it is not even featuring a Perth team (I recan the NRL needs to bite the bullet and put a team there)

That's all good and well, but they just lost a third of their customers in 1 weekend, and whos paying for said team? the nrl is already spending millions year on year keeping heartland clubs like the Titans alive, on top of the fact Perth has already failed once.

the reason I myself haven't really worried about a few thousand drop in crowd numbers
over the last few years I think it has been
Souths v Warriors multiple games
few manly games and Bronx

Gold Coast probably had not much appeal.

all this when a Perth Team is not even playing..

I will slightly correct you on the Perth team failed part.

The Crowds were good in the range over 13k
they also played at the WACA ground which is not ideal for rectangle codes.

They were taken out of the competition when the ARL and the super league went to court.

In 1997 the Reds became one of eight ARL teams to join the rival Super League during the dispute known as the Super League war. They changed their name to the Perth Reds for the 1997 Super League season,

they entered into the Australian Rugby League competition in 1995 before defecting to the rival Super League competition in 1997, where they rebranded themselves as the Perth Reds. However, by the end of the year the Reds had become a casualty of the Super League War peace deal and were shut down.

Their first game, played at the WACA, was watched by a record 24,392, with the Reds defeating St George 28–16. When News Limited began its "blitzkrieg" in April 1995, the Reds aligned themselves with Super League along with nine other Australian Rugby League clubs. That season the Reds were the best performing of the three expansion teams introduced, winning 11 of their 22 games, including 8 at home, which drew an average crowd of around 13,000, larger than that of many Sydney teams.

But the problem at the moment Western Force are more than likely taking the fans that would commit to a WA side. The longer the NRL take the longer it will be before they can get those fans back - I can't see the NRL expanding there any time soon and for the same reason they failed last time - Perth Reds paid the travel bill for all visiting teams plus their own. This was forced on them by the ARL and the Sydney clubs - Sydney clubs won't want to travel there without them picking up the bill - it might be good for 3 games a year where the visiting "home" team pockets 300 or 400 k but they won't want to pay. Sorry Leeroy but it ain't gunna happen in this tv rights deal.

A rugby league team entering Perth, would only hurt the Union side..
I am starting to think they will not put a Perth side either.. not until maybe the next rights deal.

As I think they will wanna take the money on offer by having another QLD team.

I think the biggest thing that is dissuading the NRL from expanding in this tv rights deal is the NRL owning Newcastle, West Tigers(West interest) and GC Titans, until they get buyers the NRL won't embark on new franchises, also they have to solve issues with the draw and as I said travel, not insurmountable but will require further investment in those 3 clubs to make them more attractive to potential buyers. Maybe relocation is the answer - West Tigers don't need to change their name, most prob pick up 10k more members and add further tv times in scheduling e.g. 5pm which in Perth is still a 3pm start. Relocation if I was an interested person would be the preferred option and allows the QLD bid to come in with another NZ team.

I however do not think this will happen..
and the Titans are in good hands and are taking it slow
to find the right corporate and community backing.. (they are in no rush)

the big thing why the NRL has not expanded
is coming down to Player Talent and enough players to go around at a Top level..

they want to strengthen NSW AND QLD Cup State Leagues AND NZ first why also strengthening the Pacifc

Point taken - still don't think we will see a new franchise for at least 5 years. The NRL would love to have a draft for this reason IMO.

The nrl need to do what the AFL did in sydney and get the grassroots game going. I think from memory that perth does have a some kind of semi decent junior comp there with decent numbers so its a good base. They need to pump a lot more in though.

Perth relies on the NSW people heading over to the mines - if there is a downturn in mining there may be also a downturn in participation in RL.

Ummm that seems to be the opposite of what is actually happening, the mining industry has been slowing right down for years now, yet the growth in Rugby League in WA still continues.

Still plenty of NSW people involved in mines para - another thing is kids may stay true to their parents football but most will play what their mates play - that's why Melb with the big islander communities in Sunshine and Dandenong still aren't experiencing massive growth in RL still relatively small (bit over 3000 from memory).

3 NRL games this weekend and GWS have the biggest crowd and before we hear oh but they were playing the Swans - it was a GWS home game and an away game for Swans fans!! AND West Tigers were playing Sth Sydney in Sydney!!! With only Sharks v Dragons and Cronulla v Cowboys to come GWS may get the top drawing game this round!!! Bright sunshine long weekend and every reason for bumper crowds but no cigar NRL!
