I do not think AFL fans with pay tv can watch all games live..... Unless they have split screen ?

ok, let me ask you this. As an NRL fan how many games of NRL could you watch this weekend, assuming you have foxtel?
70 % of R League fans can watch 3 matches a week.
70% of AFL fans can watch 4 or slightly more.
The 30% of RL with PTV can watch 8.
The 30% of AFL with PTV can watch 7 and sometimes 8.

Meaning more AFL viewers have access to matches on TV.

At club level(ie. 85% of RL), at best, they do as well. When the other 15% is added added in, well

but but but there using there left hand!
[-X [-X [-X :^o :^o :^o
I have foxtel. I can watch at most:
Friday 7.30
Saturday 1.30
Saturday 4.30
Saturday 7.30
Sunday 1.30
Sunday 4.30

Thats 6 games from 18 hours viewing

NRL fans can watch all 8 games from 16 hours viewing

On the AFL's 4th FTA game, it's delayed into Melbourne which accounts for well over 50% of our metro market. It's also shown on Saturday arvo the lowest rating period of the weekend. So realistically its not much of an advantage compared to say the NRLs 4 prime time games compared to our 3.

So the AFL have 2 less watchable games per round on TV, and less rounds overall. Plus no SOO. The NRL should win by 20-30m each year

Geez XMan you sound like a PR spokesman for Coles or Woolies trying to justify your product. If a competitor sells more on aggregate and average there probably entitled to say they are the premium product.

What your saying is like Coles selling the most chocolates during the year but Woolies saying that means nothing because Coles is open more often so people haven't go the opportunity to buy as many as our chocolates.

At the end of the day Coles sold more chocolates. End of story.

but in the context of this argument its way too simple to say total ratings or averages alone is the final story.

Above Ive shown that an AFL fan can only watch 6 games per weekend maximum despite 9 games being played, while an NRL fan can watch all 8 games. Therefore the AFLs total should realistically be divided by 6 which would give the AFL the highest average.

Then, the AFLs games go for 50% more time. Our '6' games are 18 hours of viewing, 2 more hours than the NRLs 16 hours. The total should really reflect time watched overall, not just games watched. After all, this is more relevant to the broadcasters because it means more exposure to the advertising

Geeza XMan this is getting really silly. An NRL fan cannot watch all 8 games unless he has foxtel. That means 70% of fans cannot watch all 8 games. That's 70%. So what should the NRL's total be divided by to get the average?

You must work in the marketing department of a failing business. You've got all the spin but at the end of the day the NRL sells more chocolates.

Sheesh. The same applies for the AFL Darren! only 30% of AFL fans can watch these 6 games, the rest are limited to FTA.

Another thing I havent mentioned is that 4 of the NRLs 8 games are in prime time, while only 3 of the AFLs 9 are. Another factor boosting the NRLs average

Maybe what boosts the NRL's averages is people actually watching NRL games XMan. Your reasoning is just desperate marketing spin. Maybe you work for the AFL? In any case I'm done with your silliness tonight, I've got more important thing to do.

So you wont actually address ANY of the points. Why am I not surprised?

Heres another example of why comparing averages is completely flawed in this setting. Wookies figures show the NRL have an average FTA audience of 700k per game. The AFL on the other hand average only 290k, well under half the NRL. Looking at averages alone you would expect that the NRL would dominate every comparable game.

Yet the AFL get around 900k for their Friday night game on FTA, and have consistently outrated the NRL in this time slot.

How can the AFL average 900k on Friday for FTA yet only average 290k for FTA overall? Can you explain this or is it too complicated for you?

NRL TV/PTV Ratings totals round by round.
Preseason
Auckland Nines Sat 159k NZ Sky?
Auckland Nines Sat 167k NZ Sky?
Auckland Nines Sun 157k NZ Sky?
NRL Indigenous Allstars NINE (SYD 277k MEL 13k BRI 218k ADE 7k PER 13k) 528k Reg??
Charity Shield NRL #DragonsSouths PTV 132k
WCC NRL/SL RoostersWigan 32k

Preseason Total 1.175m

ROUND 1 TOTAL = 4.226m + NZ Sky ave 200k per week
ROUND 2 TOTAL 4.124m +200k
ROUND 3 TOTAL: 3.738m Sunday FTA regionals missing +200k
ROUND 4 TOTAL 4.027m +200k
ROUND 5 TOTAL 4.130m +200k
ROUND 6 TOTAL 4.175m +200k
ROUND 7 TOTAL 4.218m +200k
ROUND 8 TOTAL 4.194m +200k
ROUND 9 TOTAL 4.054m +200k
KIWI TEST REP ROUND TOTAL 2.161m +400k
ROUND 10 TOTAL 3.853m +200k
ROUND 11 TOTAL 4.107m +200k

NZ Sky approximately 2.4m

2016 Total after Round 11 50.058m + SOO 1, 2, 3 11.5-12m

This will see the NRL pull ahead by over 25million after the Origin series is complete.

AFL 36m so far.

As you can see there is no way in hell that the AFL gets close to the NRL on aggregate ratings.

As we have said many times on here the NRL gets paid way more per hour of Product for a reason.

More per hour, LOL

The AFL get more money from Australia alone than the NRL from 2 countries plus SOO.
