Wrong. AFL Cairns is the strongest league in the state outside of Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Cazalys is a high standard venue that has hosted NAB Cup games and draws crowds of a similar size to that of the Cowboys in Townsville. IIRC Cazalys also hosted VFL games in 2010 when the Suns were playing in it.
Cairns and Townsville couldn't be more different.

Now comon TLPG do you really think I'm gunna take your word on this? I've proven you sprout facts and figures out of your bottom before.
I'll make my own mind up over a period of time when I visit Cairns myself. I'll go off local knowledge and what the lay of the land tells me, not some chump who talks about one stadium.
The only way you'll be correct on this one will be through luck.

There are seven clubs in the AFL Cairns competition with only one based outside Cairns (Port Douglas). All of them have their own home ground. Townsville has five clubs and one of them only exists in the reserves. IIRC they have only two venues (maybe three but no more). Interleague clashes between the two never happen because Cairns would win easily every time.
Your bias is showing. Just take a look at what gets the coverage in the Cairns Post compared to the Townsville Bulletin.

BTW, did you notice the TV ratings this week. Gold Coast vs Brisbane in the AFL smashed the NRL Brisbane vs Melbourne game on the same night and that's before we even add the free to air tv ratings in Brisbane. The AFL and Foxtel would no doubt be very pleased with that result.

The NRL was backing up from a Test Match and another representative fixture played on the Friday night, meaning there was many key players missing from all sides. there was only a couple of matches played that weekend and those that were played, were played with sub-standard rosters.
The FTA figures are hardly fare when you consider, NBN Newcastle alone , has a bigger audience than most of South Australia.
Talking about Foxel, out of last years top 100 programs wern't 70+ NRL games? I think AFL had about 8

Broome and Alice Springs are AFL heartland yet don't have a team. What a silly thing for you to say pussycat.pussycat wrote:If there's such a huge following why don't the AFL have a team there?Beaussie wrote:Agreed that Cairns is definately AFL heartland. Excuses, excuses. Funny how you NRL supporters never take into account the fact that games broadcast on Foxtel in the AFL are also broadcast on FTA TV at the same time or slight delay.pussycat wrote:Beaussie wrote:And your point pussycat is? Foxtel didn't pay record $$$ to the AFL because they believed NRL is number one. All games live and exclusive to Foxtel as of next season will see the top 100 programs dominated by the AFL. Watch this space.

Compare the coverage in the two papers and the answer will stare right back at you.King-Eliagh wrote:My bias is showing?? Not to mention every regional city in WA, SA and Tasmania. Oh and what about Ballarat, Bendigo, Shepparton, Warrnambool etc etc etc......Beaussie wrote:Broome and Alice Springs are AFL heartland yet don't have a team. It's down to population base, Pussycat. Just because a city is an AFL heartland doesn't automatically make it capable of being home to an AFL club.

Im only saying that because the NRL has a team in North Queensland (AFL heartland apparently) and it attracts plenty of Support.Beaussie wrote:Broome and Alice Springs are AFL heartland yet don't have a team. There is one reason and one reason alone that League continues to get short changed by Fox. The same people that have taken control of our game are the same people that own foxtel.Beaussie wrote:Excuses, excuses. How stupid does Roy Gallop think people are ? Its fairly common knowledge that Rugby League dominates(by a long way) the list of top rating matches on Foxtel. It is also common knowledge that there is a greater 'take up' in the Eastern States(Rugby League dominated states) and, correct me if im wrong here, but the AFL have 4 matches on Foxtel compared with Leagues 5 (though the other three are shown on delay). So what possible mathematical equation is Roy Gallop using that gives him the belief that the AFL is more popular than Rugby League on pay TV?
And on your other point, yes, you will rate much higher on pay TV next year, probably even higher than Rugby League . But we will rate much, much higher than your code on FTA.

AFL is more popular nationwide I think is what David Gallop is constantly pointing out. As for your last point about tv ratings. Dream on. Not only will the AFL dominate Pay TV from next season onwards with all games live and exclusive to Foxtel, there is no way a two markets (Sydney & Brisbae) game like the NRL will ever match the nationwide ratings of the AFL in the all important capital cities that tv rights are based upon. That is a fact proven through the history of the tv rights for each code each time they have been negotiated.pussycat wrote:How stupid does Roy Gallop think people are ?
